Came across this. Published at the beginning of the 2014 season.

As we prepare for the season, we decided to examine the cross-section of music and sports, taking a look at each Southeastern Conference (because conference pride, y’all) football team through the eyes of musicians who are fans. Paste rounded up a representative for each school and talked about Saturday pigskin in the South.

I've only heard of 1 of those musicians, although 2 other names seem familiar.

Does that make me a loser, or this writer lazy?

Sound Tribe Sector Nine is out of Athens I think

*edit, nope aparrantley Atlanta and you're right, they're out of Athens GA. Damnit. Can't tell you how many times I've seen WSP. They've played quite a bit in T-Town, but I last saw them at an open venue near Nashville. Always a good chill band.

I had an incredible experience. … It seemed fitting to indulge myself with a substance that can be found in fields that conveniently surround Starkville. Making all my senses fire on all cylinders that definitely made that day one to remember.

They are. Doesn't mean all the musicians are from there

A "sidewalk" fan at AU? Makes no sense, it has to be a lie.

JB, Houser, and Schools of WSP all went to UGA. So, they're a mostly Athens/UGA band, but obviously not all members.

You don't know who Widespread Panic, Alabama Shakes, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, Robert Earl Keenm, Sister Hazel are? Those are all pretty big names.
