Humanity would have been better off today if religion had never been created.

True or False?

True. Religion has caused more wars and death than anything else in the history of mankind.

I personally would say True, but feel either answer would be correct

I know it's a hypothetical, but I dislike the premise.

Why has humanity been religious across culture and time?

Hard to say.

Lots of people killed due to religion.

But, it gives a lot of people hope, makes them feel better about life, and creates a moral code in the case of some religions that has resulted in a lot of good. Course also has resulted in a lot of stupid behavior like thinking sex is bad in many ways, etc.

Tough call IMO.

False. We would have just found something else to kill each other over

False. If we're going to look at the negative for religion, I think you have to encompass the positive of providing a moral code throughout history as well.

Wars would still be fought over things like economy, territory, etc. It's a push at best.

Because people as individuals don't have a good enough moral compass, to distinguish right from wrong, without having to be directed by some "supposed" higher power.

False. Societies that tried to strip religions were just as violent.. Marx/Lenin/Pol Pot...

Human nature is to be sinful and self oriented.

False. Wars would have been fought over other things, not to mention that a lot wars that were fought over religion, had a political basis behind them. Religion offers many people hope, peace, and continuity and is generally a positive thing in my opinion unless you're within the small percentage that spends their lives beheading people in the name of Allah.
