First off the kid looks like a gamer and seems to have a great family and leadership potential so I'm not trying to flame...here is my question

I've seen multiple posts saying "Patterson is more college ready right now but franks has a higher ceiling" how do you figure franks has a higher ceiling?

Is it just your way to ease the melting?
Is it because he's more athletic so you just assume he will be phenomenal with coaching?
is it that Patterson is so polished for his age that you can't imagine him getting much better as a QB?

And I'm not saying he does or doesn't have a higher ceiling... Hell there's a chance neither of them reach their ceiling so it really doesn't matter anyway but I was just curious

High ceiling is code for "athletic but raw".

Not many sure things at qb but both should do well. Patterson is more fundamentally sound. Franks has prototypical frame and higher ceiling. Can't go wrong with either IMO

How could a 6'5 guy with a strong arm have a higher ceiling than a 5'11 system qb with an average arm and equal athleticism? Definitely melting.

One of the 2 is already an NFL prototype, the other is 5'11". Freeze knows it, that's why Ole Miss offered Franks. Hell 9 out of the 14 teams in the SEC offered Franks, is there a thread trolling all of them, including Ole Miss because he's committed to LSU? Get a life.

Patterson is coming from a high school offense very similar to the high school offense Hugh brought to OM.
He should do well, but will he become a top 5 NFL draft pick playing in an offense like that? Time will tell.

Franks is a tall pocket passer, with some decent mobility, who has been under center running an offense that is more suited to what Cam wants to do. I think it is the LSU staff that evaluated Shea at a camp they both attended and they felt Franks was the better prospect. Coaches don't care what Rivals and 247 sports rank them.

Cmon man, there was no melt. If anything it was one of those occasions here where there was a reverse melt by OM fans because of the non-melt of the LSU fans.

He 6'5 220 and he runs a 4.7 40, he was clocked throwing a football 57 mph at a camp so I would say he has a pretty high ceiling.

I don't know why either of them could have a higher ceiling..I have no idea how to predict or evaluate skill levels. I just know "damn he's tall or damn that was a nice pass" Since one lives/plays in LA and the other is committed to y'all and I've seen "ceiling" thrown around a lot I figured I would ask...

So from this thread I've learned having a high ceiling is solely being athletic with good height/frame for whatever position you're trying to play... That's all I wanted to know

Your QB commit was not fond of us having Franks already being committed that tells you all you need to know about which QB is "college ready" and or has the higher ceiling.

So passive aggressive. I notice you completely ignore the arm strength comments and Patterson being a system qb. Sad.

Yep last time I checked George Whitfield only works with midget system QB's!

I don't know which QB has the stronger arm. I've never watched either throw in person or side by side. I tend to not get in arguments about something I'm not well informed on....

And I don't see why you think he is a system QB. number 1 QB with offers from everywhere. Every article I've seen says he has "amazing feet, great accuracy, ability to make plays with his feet (unofficial 4.65), and a good-great arm depending on the article...some analysts compare him to Brees or Rodgers and say he's the best prospect to come out in 5 years or so... And I wasn't being subtle I was being genuine about why ppl think he has a higher ceiling...then you try to make it a pissing contest...

For as much as Ole Miss fans are saying LSU fans are melting and diminishing the skills of Patterson (which some are), Ole Miss fans are doing the exact same with Franks and trying to make him seem like some scrub compared to Patterson.

The bottomline is both teams have a commitment from a great QB prospect. The flames will never end regardless.

Who knows who has the higher ceiling? Teams passed on Major Applewhite because they thought that he was so polished that he would not get any better. He did pretty good, but then Mack Brown decided to go with the FR Simms who had the higher ceiling.

I am sure that Patterson did not want to go to a school that already had Franks committed. And Franks expressed concerns about being in a 2 QB class. In addition, Ole Miss runs an offense like Patterson runs in HS. He never takes a snap under center when a QB at LSU must do. Franks appears more suited for LSU's offense because he drops back in his HS offense. Maybe both are equally "college-ready" for the schools they committed to.
