No freakin' way!
NCAA conference commissioners considering reinstating freshman ineligibility
quote:
Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby [told CBS] there is “almost a uniform acknowledgment that there’s kids in college that don’t have any interest in an education and don’t have the proper education to take advantage of an education.” Bowlsby said freshman ineligibility would have a “profoundly positive effect” on football and men’s basketball by easing the transition from high school without the distractions of competition.
Freshman ineligibility “would do a lot to restore credibility and integrity to college basketball,” said Scott, whose conference is also studying the potential impact in other sports. “It would demonstrate they’re students first on those teams and they’re in class and getting grades that would keep them eligible. The reality of one-and-done is it’s not even one. It’s like half or three-quarters (of a school year) and done.”

Are they going to do away with leaving early for the draft?
Two way street.

There goes Kentucky basketball. I like it, and it would restore some credibility to the game.
Didn't read the article, but would it include all sports?

All the good talent will just go overseas for a year.

i also think its dumb. the unintended consequence is more schools would recruit jucos to fill the gaps of freshman being ineligible

What a dumb fricking idea.
The NBA will figure another way to help these studs get there. They will start a developmental league of some sort that will cripple an ad backfire on the ncaas decision.
It shouldn't be a prerequisite to attend college to play at a higher level IMO...
That being said, if they do go to college, it should be a 3 year minimum and colleges punished for failing athletes. That would make them more careful with their signees.

Some law firm will make a large pile of money with a class action law suit.

But Cal said that calling more fouls would fix college basketball?
I'm for the 3 year thing if they go to college however I do like the education sentiment they're using here.

Would relegate college basketball closer to the shite-pile that is college baseball. I'm sure fans would love watching the best of the "second tier" players.
The best freshman go to college with zero intent to get a degree, and you know what, that's fine. The colleges can pretend like they really care about student-athletes academics, but the reality is that they LOVE the money and exposure big time athletics bring to their institution. This is nothing more than a "dog and pony" show

I don't think this would be being discussed at all if the NBA adopted a policy similar to the NFL's "3 year" rule. I hear that the NBA's Players Association is preventing that - but I'm too lazy to do the research to confirm that.
