Air Force's Troy Calhoun, chair of NCAA FB rules committee: “Very little” in terms of rule changes, “speaks very well” to health of game.

In other words: No controversial rule proposals coming from NCAA FB rules committee this year — like, say, a 10-second rule.

Calhoun says FB rules committee spent lot of time on tech possibilities like helmet cams, helmet radios, use of computers on sidelines, etc.

Calhoun suggests there might be a “test run” for some technology like helmet cams in handful of bowl games this season.

AF’s Troy Calhoun on why a year later, pace of play is no longer an issue: “There’s no pertinent data that shows we had a safety problem."

The ineligible downfield rule was adjusted from three yards to one yard past the line of scrimmage. To be legal, a lineman who is more than one yard past the line of scrimmage must be engaged with a defensive player when a pass is released.

A 15-yard unsportsmanlike foul will be called on players who push or pull opponents off piles – for example, following fumbles.
these two are going to cause the most issues for refs.
quote:
Officials will return to giving teams an initial sideline warning when their personnel move out of the designated team bench area.
I hadn't realized warnings had been stopped. This is a good change.
quote:
Allow instant replay review to see if a kicking team player blocked the receiving team before the ball goes 10 yards on onside-kick plays.
quote:
The calling of team timeouts by the head coach will be instant-replay reviewable at any time.
These should have been the case since replay review became a thing.

Honestly, my 2 biggest problems are
(1) The afterplay pile, generally on short yardage or goal line plays. They have to get a hold of that. They are putting refs in a terrible place and people get hurt.
(2) The read option run/pass guy downfield thing. That just isn't fair to defenses and they gotta enforce that better.

It's not fair because it is a rule that defensive players have used for 50 years to determine run or pass. If they want to change the rule fine, but change it. As of now it's a rule that is enforced about 33% of the time.
Either fix it or eliminate it.

Agreed, let's also do away with play action, pump fakes or anything else that might deceive a defense.

Nonononono
Not my point. My point, like I said above, is either remove the rule (which I'd be fine with), change the rule or enforce the rule.
I mean, it's a rule and they haphazardly enforce it. Either do it or don't.

Looks like they are ;
