Why didn't the CFB Playoff Committee make a final ranking for the hell of it?

Every other major ranking creates a top 25 post-bowl game ranking. Why doesn't the committee do the same? To much work?

1) They serve a specific purpose, and only that purpose: to select and seed the final four teams. Making a post-bowl ranking has no function in that purpose;

2) Unlike other polls, they meet in person and discuss their rankings. Others just send them in. So the committee would have to arrange a further face-to-face meeting for something that isn't in their purview. They're busy people with other things to do once their "job" is finished.

Their rankings were purely for the playoff

If that's true, then there would be no need for them to release rankings prior to the week leading up to the semifinal game. They said themselves that they start on a clean slate every week. That would make regular season rankings a complete wash.

I think they started too early, but their logic in releasing polls before the bowl season was fine -- they wanted the public to see their rankings in action and get an idea of how they'd evaluate wins, losses, toughness of opponent, aggregate schedule, etc. That way, the final poll would come with fewer unknowns as far as weight given to various factors. They may even change the process of releasing polls, or shorten the period they do so, over the next few years as the public grows accustomed to vagaries of how the committee operates.

A final poll would have to include TCU somewhere in the top 4. That would create more trouble than it would be worth.

I don't think so most everyone seems to agree that TCU is better than FSU

Yeah. That's what I meant. A final poll post bowl would be a public announcement that they got it wrong.
