I know that I will get crushed by the script A's on this thread. After I saw him in the Bo Jackson 30 for 30 or the SEC show on Bo Jackson, I believe that I would have enjoyed playing for Coach Dye. He does remind me of Coach Miles. Just appears he made playing the game fun

Did he enjoy drinking even when he was coaching? He just seems like a good ole boy

Any particular reason why you feel this way about him other than the rivalry?

Hell yeah, he did.

Can you imagine going on a quail hunt with Dye and Bryant?

I have a hangover from just thinking about it.

Surprised those didn't end in more Dick Cheney incidents.

Pat Dye helped bring the rivalry back to even. He got the Iron Bowl moved outa that shithole Legion Field and made into a home and home. Did he have faults? Yep. However, he remains an important figure in Auburn football history.

My dad, who is, sadly, an AU fan (we all have our faults) went on a quail hunt with him on his ranch a couple of years ago.

Pat Dye!

GOAT IMO

He loved his players like crazy but he was also a tough bastard that was insanely difficult to play for, especially early on. He was an absolute terror when he arrived at AU. He had a reputation that preceded him to AU and upon arrival, he kicked two players out of his introductory meeting with the team and ran off 40 players in his first spring training in 1981.

My favorite Coach Dye quote, ""How long will it take you to beat Alabama?" Dye's reply was "60 minutes."
