Bad OV thread made me think of this. What are some absurd recruiting stories for your school? Doesn't have to be confirmed.

***For everyone's sake, please exclude any "they paid him" accusations that aren't confirmed by a legitimate media outlet.

UGA related:

-Josh Harvey-Clemons silently committed to UF the weekend before NSD, but committed to UGA on ESPN on NSD. His grandfather was so upset that he hijacked the LOI and went MIA for 24 hours. Neither Josh nor UGA knew where he was or if he'd allow Josh to sign with UGA. He ended up signing the next day.

-There is an unconfirmed rumor from UGA people who would know that Mike Bobo and Jeremy Pruitt (while at Alabama) got into a fist fight in a high school parking lot over Shannon Brown, who never ended up qualifying for any school.

-Rodney Garner once passed out on a recruit's couch during an in-home visit. Conflicting rumors as to whether he was drunk or not.

What was the story of Malcolm Mitchell and Kirby Smart?

What I've heard is that Kirby showed up at Valdosta HS to check-in on Mitchell who was supposed to announce for Bama that night. When Mitchell told him he was committing to UGA, Kirby got pissed and stormed out to his car.

I've heard it that Kirby took it out on a trophy case in the school before leaving. Keep in mind, Bama lost out on Jay Rome to us just a few hours earlier and would miss on Crowell a day or two after that.

I also remember the one about Gabe Wright that same year, that he basically dropped UGA because they didn't have a golf cart to drive he and his mom all over campus rather than walk like all the other visitors.

Another good one is that dining hall food was allegedly what tipped the scales in UGA's favor over Clemson for Todd Gurley.

When he was at Tennessee, Ed Orgeron showed up at Marlon Brown's grandma's house for a visit after having a few drinks, which Brown's granny immediately smelled on his breath.

During the visit, Orgeron went on to tell the Brown's that he was just "an old coonass from the Bayou" which the family took as a racial slur and it offended them.

Brown went on to sign with UGA.

I guess since we're talking UGA-UTk receivers, Da'Rick Rogers:

I'd always heard it told that Da'Rick picked UGA early on in his recruitment and was pretty content with it until the Nance family (with whom he was living in Calhoun) threw an enormous bitch fit because UGA refused to offer Nash Nance (Da'Rick's HS QB) a cootieship to keep Da'Rick and the Nances happy and committed. So, they went straight to UTk, both committed, and as soon as Da'Rick's attitude issues flared up with his first arrest, the Nance family dropped his arse like yesterday's news. Nash would later transfer to Vandy and never play a down at either school.

Oh where do I start. The worst accusation I ever heard was that a booster let Treadwell sleep with his wife in order to get a signature. That originated from the same site The Network did

That's absurd. I'm trying to steer this thread away from accusations though. Trying to keep it good-natured.

Michael Brown (DT) chose Florida over Georgia because Florida had paddle boats.

He ended up at Hampden-Sydney

I've heard that Lane Kiffin showed up at the school and walked right past Da'Rick to shake Nash's hand. It was over after that.

Cassanova McKinzy signed with us because we had more Chick-Fil-As on campus than Clemson

Vince Dooley sent then Asst Coach Mike Cavan down to Wrightsville, GA (there's barely anything there now, let alone back in 1979-1980) and told him to get a hotel room and stay there until Herschel signed with UGA and not to bother coming back to Athens if it didn't happen.

Herschel Walker tells it that his decision to go to UGA was based on a coin flip. While many have said the alternative was Clemson, he says the real alternative was to join the Marines.

I think that's 100% spot on except Nance transferred to some small D3 school IIRC.

I believe (and I'm sure Brown does, too) that paddle boating is the preferred method of transportation of God himself. We really need to get some fricking paddlers out on Lake Herrick ASAP lest we lose out on more recruits.
