It was mentioned in another thread (can't remember which one) but here's more details.

This makes me sad. Trivia and taco Tuesday there was fantastic. Such a great place.

Used to love Bodega and the Vault...very chill, we'd go play pool and go to Taco tuesday every week

Has it died off a bit?

The article explains why. Their lease would double.

I don't think i would ever pursue owning my own business if I would have to rent/lease the building to run it out of.

I would have rent increase limits written into the lease to protect me from getting a bill twice in size.

Hmmm,

I wonder what kind of restaurant will move in. If they plan on being a fancier establishment, they might lose customers because that corner begins to get loud and rowdy when drink specials start (mostly due to large number of people).

However, if it's going to be a place like Tacorita or Halftime, then I can see it being a hit.

Yea, they definitely need to keep the bar-like atmosphere there. That location is just too perfect for it. Have it be like Jackson's here in Birmingham, though hopefully a little better than Jackson's. Restaurant, but the bar stays open late, and usually has good drink specials.

ETA: I know what needs to go there. Taco Mac. It would be perfect.

It's the guy who owns 17 and Quixotes that now owns the building. So it'll probably stay a bar with an expanded restaurant

It'll have to be with with the kitchen it has. Seems like it would cost a small fortune to upgrade its current kitchen to restaurant quality

This is true. Probably no Taco Mac then.

No way. Get something local that doesn't suck. I like Taco Mac for the beer and edible food, but who wants a chain in that prime spot?

I hate Jackson's.

I do too, but something of that style would be good where it is a restaurant and bar that stays open late. Jackson's food is pretty awful except for those cookie dough egg rolls. Something like the J. Clyde might be pretty decent there.

ETA: Ooooo or bring the Irish Bread Pub there (or bring a second one there). That place is awesome, but damn did it suck driving out there.

What would you suggest?

Or something like Paramount. Bring it to Auburn. Upstairs will be the arcade bar.

Damn, I have great ideas.

Preferably something local or with just a few locations. It's such a prime spot, I don't want to see it go to a real chain. Patio at T. Mac just depresses me, but half my college memories are from Bodega

I can still remember all the lukewarm coffees I drank there back when it was called, Coffee Bank, back in the 90s. Was a good place for playing chess tho.
