A federal judge in Mobile, Alabama, on Friday struck down the state's ban on same-sex marriage, bringing the number of states that allow same-sex couples to marry to 37. "There has been no evidence presented that these marriage laws have any effect on the choices of couples to have or raise children, whether they are same-sex couples or opposite-sex couples. In sum, the laws in question are an irrational way of promoting biological relationships in Alabama," wrote Federal District Court Judge Callie V.S. Granade.

More Federalism. Less States rights, whether one agrees or disagrees with State law.

Sometimes states need to be pulled into the present times.

Not when the Constitution grants them certain rights. Whats good for California may not be for North Dakota may not be for New York. Federal intervention has overstepped so much, folks think its appropriate for any reason now.
Eta- fwiw, i think govt should be out of the marriage business completely and it should simply be a personal/religious event.

When it comes to issues like slavery, interracial marriage, and same-sex marriage, the Feds need to step in.

Why should the govt be involved in ANY marriage and comparing to slavery is huge

Good. It's only a matter of time until gay marriage is legal in all fifty states, as it should be.

I don't understand the logic of doubling down on something you shouldn't be doing to begin with.

I personally still think that's way off base.
