Is anyone else sick of what modern day recruiting has become?

I understand wanting to know who you will get each year for your future teams, but do people really need to know every single detail about these things these days? People need constant updates every time a car cranks or a plane leaves. Grown men spend hours each day reading what a high school kid puts on twitter. And, those same high school kids become more and more like drama queens each day in their recruitment as a result, flipping back and forth for attention.

For you old-timers, what was it like before social media? (Serious question). Hopefully nothing like it is today.

I've largely tuned out to it but the only reason it exists in the current state is become there is demand for it. If people didn't want to pay $99 a year for 247 or Rivals then it wouldn't exist.

I have heard ads for that site. That is creepy as hell. WTF is wrong with people that want to send messages to a high school kid?

Wanna know what the future of recruiting is?

I have been hearing ads for it here in Nashville. Wish I would have thought of this cause Wycheck gave a breakdown the other day of where the money goes and ubooster gets something around 5-10% off the top.

You don't have to go back too far to when you didn't know much about the class, beyond the headliners, until NSD. I can remember waiting until 'Bama Magazine sent out their spring recruiting issue before I knew anything about the class. That was usually around March or April. This was the late 1990s.

Yes. I hate how much pressure they are putting on these young kids. And the flip game. and pulling scholarships. I don't like it

if a tree fell in the forest with no one around, would it make a noise?

social media is 100% the cause of the drama queen shite. but nobody was there to notice before social media so it didn't happen. it seems that athletes are playing to the crowd and they perceive their crowd to be their entourage. and, sadly, they are (until they sign).

It was a couple weeks ago I heard it, and I had the same thought. If the recruit doesn't choose your school, you get your money back? WTF...yeah, this isn't a slippery arse slope they're walking.

It is weird enough that grown men follow a kid on Twitter, but the UBooster thing takes it to another level. Anyone that signs up for that shite should have to register at the local Sheriff's Department.

Anyone who would pay money for those sites seriously needs to find something better to do in life. Why is it such an obsession?

I don't even understand the premise (I understand how it works, I don't understand the allure).

Is me donating $10K if Martez Ivy goes to Alabama supposed to encourage the coaching staff to get him? Encourage Ivy to come to Alabama? Just basically be a gift from me to Alabama? What is the pull there?

It is completely out of control. It's ugly.

Man, Logan Young and TennStud would have made TN and AL the 2 richest Athletic Departments in America if this had existed in the mid-late 90's.

recruiting wore thin on me about 4 years ago or so. i still check it sporadically and I care that we do well. But i would never pay for sites like 24/7 or rivals again.

I'm at like a 4/10 whereas my interest level used to be 10/10.
