wait, that's not what it sounds like from Saban's mouth

quote:

What’s your reaction to Thompson going across the state to Auburn?

“We’ve had several opportunities and given Lance several opportunities through the years and this same circumstance has occurred several times before. I can’t really tell you why coaches do what they do, and I think the best thing you can do is ask him, not me. We’ll do the best we can to find the best replacement for him. They guy did a good job for us when he was with us and we wish him well. We’ve always wished him well. We’ll continue to try to have the best program we can have for our players and get the best teachers and coaches for our players.”

I can't tell much of anything from that statement

Me either.

I wouldn't expect saban to insinuate he encouraged a coach to leave... might make hiring the next guy more difficult.

Maybe its just me, but that quote ("this same circumstance has occurred several times before") kind of gives credence to the one rumor I read that stated that he got "too close" to a recruit's mother. There was also speculation that he left Tennessee because he got into some affair and his now ex-wife said "we're out of here" which created the move back to Alabama.

Or he's simply talking about Lance looking for other opportunities. Much more simplistic

The Alabama stuff according to rant posters had to do with an affair with a student

I dunno, I really do get that "he told him to look elsewhere" vibe from that paragraph as well. I mean that's the kind of shite I'd say if someone working for me was a repeat offender or something. Not sure what he's a repeat offender of, though.

I would hope you would take the high road and not say anything at all unless the reason for the firing was a crime that was committed.

Who was the last coach we poached from Alabama? And by poach I mean go straight from Alabama to Auburn. No have coached at both places in their careers

Not sure about Alabama to Auburn. The last one to go from one to the other though would be James Willis from Auburn to Alabama

If he had affairs before, Saban brought him back
