Let's say the max 250 were allowed, 125 from each program like it was the last two times we (SCAR) were down there. 100 players, 25 attachments including coaches, their families, and support personnel and hangers-on.

That's 49 ounces of steak per person ... 3 lbs each. Have you ever tried to eat a three pound steak? That's just for starters.

57.6 ounces of ribs per person ... 3.6 pds each.

49 ounces of chicken per person .. 3 pds each.

6.4 shrimp per person ... okay, that's believable. (but we've since found out it was actually 1600 pds of shrimp, not 1600 ct)

4.8 pounds of cheesecake per person.

ETA:

400 pds potatoes
... 1.6 pds per person.
300 heads of lettuce ... over an entire head per person not counting tomatoes, cheese, bacon bits and other toppings.
160 Bloomin' Onions ... a little more than half a bloomin' onion per person - fried in deep thick batter.

Roughly twelve pounds of food eaten, per person, not counting liquids.

I'm calling bullshite.

ETA: Updated with potatoes, salad and bloomin' onions and a correction on the shrimp ... it was not 1600 count, it was 1600 pounds.

Officially, Outback served 282 players, coaches, misc staff, coaches wives and support personnel this free meal. So they have increased their head-count by 16 head per team since we were down there vs Michigan.

quote:

CBS Sports: Now, it's not immediately clear if those numbers represent the amount of food prepared or the amount of food actually consumed (though they add up to somewhere in the neighborhood of 4,100 pounds either way), but to judge by this tweet from Badgers offensive lineman Walker Williams, we're not betting against the latter:

I would think that scout team and all walk-on's attend the bowl game also. I'm sure they don't all dress for the game, but I would be very surprised if they didn't attend the game and the festivities.

We've eaten in the same banquet room twice down there, and 125 per team is what Outback provides for ... 125 per team. 100 players, (and usually not that many travel). 25 coaches, some of their families do come along, and support personnel are limited to medical/trainers and equipment people. We had our AD and President and his wife there too. SC ran over our allotment and had to pick-up the tab for the overrun, as did Michigan.

So no, you're wrong.

I'm not sure exactly why it is so limited in numbers but I believe it has something to do with NCAA guidelines and it all being part of the benefit restrictions at these bowls. Still yet, 125 per team is generous and there are no limits as to what you can eat that they provide on the menu.

Matter of fact, going back to the first year we were down there in 2000, Outback provided one meal and we also had another meal where we ate over at Lee Roy Selmon's near the old big sombrero which almost caused a problem with Outback.

not going to argue but teams take jumbo jets down for a reason. All those peeps got to eat. So you are telling me that a coach has to tell walk on Joe that he cant eat with the team. I am calling BS on you regardless of your experience. Bowl games are rewards and all support staff etc would be invited. At a home Bama game there are well over 200 people on the sideline and then you throw in coaches kids and spouses.

Maybe they changed since last year...why would the outback bowl lie about how much the teams ate?

125 is what Outback provides per team. Extras are paid-for by the programs.

Secondly, the banquet room would not hold that many - the place is packed to the max at 250 total. We had two other smaller banquet rooms packed with boosters and overflow, but those rooms paid their own tabs.
