I'm sure most of y'all have seen this story already. Very tragic and senseless. Hard to imagine something like that happening in that part of Bham. He was basically killed over $20. Everything that is being said about him basically says he came to the US for a better life, waited his turn to become a citizen, and never asked for a handout despite being eligible. He was content spending 80 hours a week delivering pizzas for 20 years as long as it allowed him to support his family. He was very proud that he was able to live his own version of the American Dream.

Quote his daughter's post: "My dad was 63, and he worked at Dominos Pizza with his very close friend for over 15 years. My dad came to this country almost 20 years ago in hopes of fulfilling the American Dream. Of course this dream was quickly shattered all over the greed that many of us have experienced, or seen. My dad didn't make much, and I often times paid their bills. He never ONCE went to the goverment for money, although his legal status entitled for him for it. HE never believed in this. His words to me were always "Nothing is free, you work, you pay for what you want, you don't get free".

The daughter is a friend of mine. My heart sinks when you her talk about how Christmas will never be the same for them.

Jordan said her father was a hard working man who moved his family to the United States from Jordan in the late 1990's for a better life.
"We came in hopes of a better future. He believed in working from the bottom up. He did not feel like he had to be entitled to anything," Hosey said.
That work ethic was strong. Hosey said her father would work long days just to make sure his family was taken care of.
"So much spirit. He just had such a good spirit for a 63-year-old and he was still working 80 hours a week like it's nothing," Hosey said.
A true American. More American than whoever it was who killed him.
I'd gladly let people like this into our country if we could replace the ones who would kill a man like this.
What is sad, is that a man like this is actually a great man. But, he is often overlooked by others. This makes me so very angry.

Tragic. We used to see him a lot. He delivered to our house and we own a business not far from that location. Trying to find time to go to the candle light vigil for him. I've heard they have already raised $50K for the family.

It looks like they've already raised $61K in a little over 1 day...which is awesome. They were asking for $25K for funeral expenses but I imagine they'll need more in order to help support his wife, grandchildren, etc.

I think a Domino's driver got murdered in New Orleans a few months back. I know some chains refuse to deliver to the hood, Domino's not being among them.

About 4 years ago some idiots robbed the papa johns guy at my building in gardendlae. Broke a big tree limb across his head. He was lucky my neighbor heard him screaming for help and ran the guys off. I remember him sitting on the stairs waiting on the police to get there and crying thinking about the "what if's". Papa johns wouldnt even send anyone from the store to get him.

There are lots of places that refuse to deliver to the hood. Higher crime and too many "customers" paying less or trying to get something for free.

Well, this wasn't the hood. But there are only 2 pizza places that will deliver to our work for those reasons.

Wasn't it at the apartments adjacent to the Summit?

Yes, it's next to the Summit.
The report on al.com tonight says the caller who placed the order called several times to change the address before settling on the vacant apartment number. When the driver got there, he was assaulted from behind.
Hope they catch this bastard.

Sounds like a a psychopath that just wanted to murder someone. Scary. I teared up reading the story last night. Makes me feel awful.

Either a psychopath who wanted to murder or a thug who thought it was an easy way to get a few bucks. If its the latter, then you have to wonder why they felt the need to kill the guy.
I'm wondering what leads they have. Surely the police have the phone number that was called...unless it was some prepaid phone.
