Once those kids get on campus, the question is can you develop them?
That's an indictment of your entire staff. Guys like Morris Claiborne and Tyrann Mathieu were low three/high-two star players who became Top 10 picks and/or Heisman Trophy Finalist, All-American, Bednarik Award Winning, SEC Defensive Player of the Year caliber players right alongside the stars like Patrick Peterson.
At LSU, not only do we bring in talent, but we have a superior scheme, but we also DEVELOP that talent within it.
I can't say for sure whether you're doing any of that, but teaching the talent once its on campus is a really important piece of the puzzle. LSU consistently develops its talent-especially in the Secondary. The DL is oftentimes loaded with talent as well (the past two years were a dip but next year we'll be dominant again IMO).
Scheme matters. Recruiting matters. But coaching them on the practice field and in the weight room means a TON as well. You're missing on three counts thusfar.

You're exactly right, that IS an indictment of the defensive staff.
Of the upperclassmen players on A&M's depth chart in 2014:
Julien Obioha has gotten gradually worse since his freshman year (2012) and will likely lose his starting job to either Qualen Cunningham or Jarrett Johnson in 2015
Donnie Baggs stayed average, losing his starting job his junior year (2013) to a true freshman
Deshazor Everett peaked in 2012 and has gotten gradually worse ever since
Floyd Raven never showed much potential, starting out of necessity last year, but losing his starting job to a true freshman this year.
DeVante Harris can cover, but he can't tackle and takes poor angles. I expect him to be a back up his senior year
Howard Matthews ended his senior year the same way he started his freshman year, getting trucked on the way to the end zone (James Franklin in 2011, Leonard Fournette in 2014)
Only Alonzo Williams has gotten better since he started.

I can't speak for away games even though our D is usually still pretty savage, but playing defense for the home team in Tiger Stadium has its benefits

Nope. There was no depth in 2012 and we got EXTREMELY lucky on injuries. Star-wise, the 2014 defense was actually more talented than the 2012 version, but A&M had 5 seniors, 3 juniors, 2 sophomores, and 1 freshman starting. The one freshman was at SDE opposite Damontre Moore.

If Mark Snyder coached LSU's defense, that home field advantage would rapidly disappear. Home field advantage is directly proportional to defensive quality.
Between 1990-1995, A&M went 38 straight games without losing at home.
Between 1996-2000, A&M won 22 consecutive games at home.
Has Tiger Stadium ever had a streak like that?
