Cam Cameron: worthy of being the 2nd highest paid assistant coach in CFB?

You tell me LSU fans. He gets an awful lot of money. 1.3 million per year to be more specific. This year has been bad but last year he had a 3,000 yard passer, two 1,000 receivers and a 1,000 back.
Is he really worth it?
Eta: how much of last year was his doing as opposed to just stacked with NFL talent on offense?

He'd make a terrific head coach at Michigan.

he did GA there early in his career.

He could have done better playing against slow weak defenses like Wisconsin.

As strictly a reply to the OP... No.

I don't think he's worth it. We can hire a mediocre OC and let Les hamstring him. No need to pay $1.3 mil/year and hamstring CC.

How much does Les hamstring Cam? Why bring him in for 1.3 if Leslie is just gonna put him in a box?

Don't know if he is worth 1.3m, but I think he's a damn good coach.

Les doesn't hamstring him, that's just what the crazies say. Hell Cam said it was Les' idea to call the play action pass at the end of the Ole Miss game.
Cam is worth every penny. His track record shows he will get the offense running smoothly again.

Our offense looked bland as always. The difference is we didn't have mature talent playing this year. We don't need to pay someone that much money to produce a bland offense.

He's worth it in my opinion. He's development will show. I don't care what LSU fans currently say. He didn't recruit AJ. He had no hand in that. Having to work with nothing but freshman on offense is no bueno. His colors will show next year. If he doesn't have a top 4 O in the SEC next year I'll be shocked.

Cam explained why in the New Orleans QB club video. He said he threw too much at our QBs and they couldn't handle it so he and Les went power run offense. Cam admitted he could have done better getting the QBs ready and will do so going forward.

If you're paid $1.3 million it shouldn't matter if you recruited the QB or not. And, you should have a better idea of what to give the QBs. This isn't Cam Cameron's first rodeo so I won't give him the slack I would a young OC.

After 2013 I would have said absolutely. After this year I'm not so sure. We will see what he can do with the offensive weapons he has going forward. If he earns that paycheck next year, LSU will win the NC.

He didn't do a 1.3 million dollar job of coaching this season

Show me a link with Cam running the toss dive prior to coaching at LSU.

Like it or not, there was a collossal failure on both sides of the ball that-based on our staff's collective salaries (including and especially our coordinators)-they certainly should not make.
LSU's defense was bailed out by Melvin Gordon's mysterious 2nd half injury in Houston to open the season. But versus State and Auburn, both opened I believe 17 point leads with ease on their way to 500 yards of total offense for both.
It took Chavis until the 2nd half of the Auburn game to insert Kendell Beckwith at Mike LB. Once that occurred, there were no growing pains. We just immediately turned the season around and morphed into the top Defense in the SEC.
It's difficult for even the most level headed fan to agree that KB was not ready until that point in time. 19 games into his collegiate career you finally start him? Watching his production it was painfully clear we kept a total animal on the sidelines for way too damn long, and that's a coaching mistake we shouldn't expect nor should we accept out of anyone, especially Chief.
On offense, the level of regression we saw out of the QB is as frustrating as is the realization that Jennings had been under Cam for over two years by the end of the season and was literally getting worse. You can argue young receivers having issues with press coverage and drops, but he was total shite all year and our staff's collective inability to develop him coupled with our apparent decision not to lift a finger to try a different option or change what we do to compliment our talent better is inexcusable.
This team lost at least two games it shouldn't have via this ineptitude. On top of that, what would we have done had we gone to Harris vs State earlier? People forget LSU was throwing to the end zone down 5 on then on the final play. But what if we got aggressive earlier?
At the end of the day, a lot of LSU Fsns pay more attention to what's going on, and one receiver routes, toss lead running plays, and constantly shading the C-Gap and running off the a-Gap with no tosses, and sometimes 9 man protection passes on passing plays is just not a recipe for being productive short or long term.
These are schematic (read: coaching) and developmental issues that must be laid at the feet of this staff. They need to show substantive, rapid improvement beginning next Fall. They will be held accountable with another performance like 2014.

Well, he was a so-so HC in the NFL with the Dolphins once...but that usually guarantees success at the collegiate level. LSU has ruined Cam.
I'm sure that the threads after the hire were spectacular.

Not worth it. Then again most head coaches are over paid too.

At this point, no. You can't really give him credit for Mett, he came here with UGA & JC foundations. Not saying he didn't coach him up but it's not like Mett was HIS "project". He has failed miserably at developing a 2 yr program guy in AJ & can't develop a highly touted early enrollee to the point that he is at least better than the guy who completes less than 50% of his passes & only broke the 200 yrd mark once. I'd say, at this point, he is overpaid & under achieving. I pray that by this time next year, I am talking about how this guy deserves a raise for the work he has done & the turnaround we LSU fans have seen at qb.
