This photo is from MSU's last trip to the Orange Bowl, in 1941. This was when college football was truly a game played by students.

All but one of these men died fighting in World War II.

I had forgotten about that picture. Perfect response.

The original picture was just a reminder that this used to be simply a game played by college kids, without the complexities of today. A dip in the Atlantic Ocean in 1941 was as exciting to those men as anything.

yep...take away all of the television exposure, media, and hell...even aspirations of playing professional football.

Imagine that....back then....you'd typically make more money by NOT playing professional football. We went from that, to national coverage of high school kids signing LOIs.

I have the MSU year book from that year; the year my dad graduated from State. He also served in WWII and I have never heard that.

I am not trying to disrespect any of our fallen heroes, but that was such a bold claim that I had to ask for proof.
