I think it's a breath of fresh air and adds a whole another dimension of our offense. I would love to see more duel QBs our offense for years to come. What do you guys think?

I've always been a massive fan of DT QB's ever since Vick and Young. Completely changes a defenses gameplan and allows you to pull off more plays than with a pocket passer. Also avoids the issues of a weak or injured line.

I think our QB is pretty stupid if he's out threatening to duel people.

I do like dual threats though

The original QB in football was basically a 3rd/4th running option if a hole didn't open up for the tail back or full back or half back. Pocket passing QB's came when the game of football starting drawing crowds Im the 30's and 40's. It became entertainment and the criticism of football became stronger. With more people getting involves for self gain, the game started to become manipulated and evolved. It will constantly evolve forever. Eventually the game will migrate toward whatever beats HUNH and speed ball.

In Alabama's "system," you really only need a QB who can get the ball to the playmakers, and limit mistakes.

Well shite, it doesn't take Andrew Luck to do that. Sims is as good as any at making the throws needed to move the ball in Alabama's offense, and his running ability takes it to another level.

I'd be thrilled if they started recruiting more running QBs. I love Sims, he'll be one of my favorite players of all time. But can you imagine what Alabama's offense would be like if every 5 or so years they signed a guy like JT Barrett? Holy shite they'd be unreal.

I've really changed my views on what works for a team with elite athletes like Alabama. They don't need to try to sign big, blue chip pocket passers. Keep getting the elite offensive linemen and skill guys...let them do their thing with whatever tried and true schemes you want, and stick an athletic QB back there who can get them the ball while being able to avoid pressure and break long runs or get the the chains. Idk if the stats back this, but damn if Alabama isn't more productive and efficient at making first downs this year.

theres a major difference in a qb that can 'run' when needed and a 'running' qb thats a part of the offense. personally, i prefer the qb that 'can run' when needed. sims seems to do this to perfection. way above anything i imagined he could.

this has shown me the possibilities of an offense thats nearly unstoppable. so yes, i hope we recruit to this type. my understanding is that the qb commit we have is very capable of this.

I'll be honest, I never want to see a pure dropback passer again. Having a QB that's able to evade rushers is such an advantage. In the past, we would being throwing balls into the 10th row and we'd fail to convert 3rd downs because our QBs didn't have any athleticism.

Having this extra dimension to the offense is such an advantage. They don't need to be "run first" type of QBs though.

The ability to run as a dual threat yes. I do not want it to the extent that he would always be looking for the opportunity to run. Blake is perfect in this regard as he is quick and elusive for pass rush but when he runs it is usually a QB draw, he spots something wide open or it's a last resort measure.

If we get someone the size of Richard Todd again, sure - let him run.

I agree but I've also thought that at times, Blake should've pulled it in and run instead of throwing a low percentage pass.

At the end of the day, a running QB takes so much pressure of the OL. I still have visions of OU pinning their ears back in the Sugar Bowl while AJ took 6 steps back.

Yes, why not have an athletic qb to scramble for 1st downs and ooccasionally use a set qb run

I think we would have lost another two games if not for Sims running ability. He was able to consistently elude pressure and make plays outside the pocket.

Blake's legs have won us a couple of games this year. Not to take anything away from AJ, but Sims has made plays this year that AJ simply would not have been able to make, running and passing.

I think for BAMA to be competitive in the SEC we have to have a duel threat QB!! I really hope we are only recruiting dual threat QB's.

Putting up as many points possible is the new College Football game.

I do like it, but I hope we don't go out of our way to play dual threat guys.

We don't have a true dual threat on the roster other than Blake, but Coker, Bateman, and Cornwell (the first two more so than Cornwell) are good athletes who can scramble. Then Barnett is probably a true dual threat.

Agree, there seemed some obvious opportunities for him to run. Was usually on one of those plays that pass sailed over someone.

I want a MOBILE quarterback. Not a guy that takes off if his first receiver isn't wide open. Basically another guy like Blake that can run if he has to, but can also play from the pocket.
