Sorta like it's silly to have to need the 10 commandments, why do we need to have an ordinance and more laws and regulations?

Am I reading that law right?
I haven't been keeping up, is there some magical benefit that allowed it to pass? wtf Fayetteville.

It was written in bad language but pathetic we don't have protection for LBGT citizens.
Even Starville, MS has more protection.

I agree with the message but that ordinance was awful. Luckily the crazy christians repealed it.
More bad than good would have resulted in afraid.

For those who are curious, here's a link to the ordinance. Anti Discrimination Ordinance
It is a gawd awful piece of work, the anti-discrimination czar position (think Houston) is over the top in true Fayetteville fashion. Next time, try working with the Chamber or some of the opponents and draft something that addresses their concerns. Fayetteville is easily the most difficult city to work with in the State, and it is getting worse.

While I agree with having protections in place, this disaster needed to be repealed.
It was a jumbled mess. After reading the ordinance, its a good thing it got repealed.
Enforcing it would have been a nightmare, and it left all sorts of things up for interpretation. Just not good all the way around.
If they can actually get some solid, sensible legislation together I dont think they will have a problem getting it passed.

Thanks for posting the link. I didn't read all the way though it, but it seems like they are trying to expand upon existing federal regulations. Is that correct? If so, then defeating the ordinance doesn't remove any of the federal protections already offered.

Correct. Employees are still protected by federal wage and labor laws as well as protections against discrimination practices by employers.

Not for gay folks. Which is why Wal Mart and many top 200 companies have an internal policy that goes further than federal protections.

This may be dense, but what protections do LGBT people need that aren't already covered by existing law?

No federal law protecting gays like there is for race gender religion and later on disability.

So they cannot just go about their daily lives without having special protections in place?
Why does everyone NEED something to govern them now? Its getting out of hand.
Go on about your life as an honest and hard working whatever you want to be, man, woman, both, airplane, and you wont run into these issues.
The government protecting your "rights" is all imaginary anyway.

I wouldn't call having the same rights afforded to everyone else "special protections". Same argument was probably made for jim crow laws.

Rights afforded to most people does not equal special protection.

I know, why have the Civil Rights Act at all? Black people didn't need it, right?
