Absolute no surprises, this is how it's going to be every year

I have said dozens of times this is how the selection committee will pan out every year:
1. The top 2-3 will be locks and will not be debated.
2. There will be 2-3 teams who think they should get the #4 spot and that will be the bulk of the discussion.
3. There will be a huge resistance to putting 2 teams for the same conference. It would take certain specific circumstances to happen. You are typically going to get the 4 highest rated conference champions.
That's how it works the vast majority of the time and how it worked out this year.

If the Big 12 would have named Baylor their conference champion like they should have, then I think they would have one in.

I don't think Baylor gets in unless they had a championship game

There are 5 power conferences, which means every year there will be at least 5 times with a reasonable claim to be int the playoff.
There are 4 playoff spots. Even I can do that math

Eh, maybe.
It's not like we had any legit arguments for getting 2 in this year, other than the 2 who didn't get in. SEC clearly had no argument on that front.

And honestly, I don't see a problem. As was always known, there would be a couple of teams that bitch. And one year it might be us. It's better than before, because as you said, the top 2-3 won't be debated. Previously, one of those would have been left out. Once you get past those top 4 or 5, and maybe 6, now you're having to include teams that have no business being in. One loss is understandable. Not two. Michigan State has lost to two of the teams that are in. They have no business being in a national championship discussion. But if you go to 8, they're probably in.

No, they wouldn't have. Calling chicken shite chicken salad doesn't make it chicken salad. The committee was never going to include a team merely because of a label their conference put on them. Calling them the champions wouldn't have changed any results on the field.

One thing is for sure. Mississippi State would not have held on to the #4 spot f they would have beaten Ole Miss.
Good to be a brand name.

If the Big 12 was won by Texas and Oklahoma instead of TCU and Baylor, we might have a different playoff.
