half a flying rat frick about whether or not UAB has anything, let alone football?

Are you saying that UAB was competing with them somehow? For anything?

I would think, if anything, Auburn would be slightly pleased UAB is out of the picture I guess, but even that's far-fetched.

I'm sorry, but I just don't get why UAB football matters at all to Alabama, let alone why they would play out some glorious Knights Templar Masonic conspiracy to do them in.

It seems it matters a lot to UT, AU, and LSU fans.

If all these Aubbies would put their money where their mouths are, they could save poor UAB football.

UAB is a money-pit on the whole system. Twenty-three years of deficits in the program. If the boat don't float, it sinks.

Because Bear Bryant Jr. hates UAB athletics. Because UA does not want UAB to transition into a traditional campus.

But mainly, it s because of a letter written by a dead man many decades ago.

That's because you're a rational person.

You are not this naive. Do you really need to links to all the sources documenting the abuse of the BoT yet again?

It does not matter. UA got what it wanted in the end, and the only ones suffering will be the kids and the fans of UAB.

Which does make some sense, I guess, and thus the whole state (except them poor Blazer players) should be applauding the move.

Here in Georgia I can see us pulling the plug on Georgia State's football program for the same reason. But for financial reasons benefitting the entire state academic hierarchy, not because the Georgia Bulldog football team gives a flip.

Auburn doth truly melt in mysterious ways, don't she?

I've noticed you commenting on all of these UAB threads. It's obvious you care and have read a great deal more than me into this matter. I confess that when it comes to UAB football and the machinations of the UA BoT, I am totally in the dark. So I suppose in this regard, I am that naive.

I would like for UAB to keep football, if it is financially viable. For that reason, I encourage you and all other concerned parties to donate.

21, yes, 21 athletic departments don't run with deficits.

Why would Bama never play them, and give them that money they gave to southern miss?

More bamafans seem to care. It is odd. Like guilt or something.

well, my son thinks he is suffering because I will not by him a new 4 wheel drive truck with all the extras...I mean he has friends with these types of trucks.

Maybe their parents make more money than I do. maybe they are just ok with extra debt and poor financial management

Whatever hatred someone points to...or conspiracy theory is repeated can not trump being financially responsible...at least IMO.

Yes there are people who will actually be hurt financially and emotionally by this decision. The real world is tough.

FYI, I have taken my own players on recruiting trips to UAB and some have played there...it does stink. But that does not make it the wrong decision.

I do donate to UAB. My father graduated from there with his Masters, my wife was an associate professor and I was a TA.

It is funny how weeks ago this was just an unfounded rumor. We were talking about then and everyone was like, this all untrue, based off a letter from Alumni.

It is funny they were right before a report was even finished.

At the end of the day, I am sad for UAB. Sorry if that is hard to understand. I hope this brings enough anger to finally separate UAB from the UA BoT. Jefferson county has a lot of sway in the senate and house. It would take an amendment, but our state has what over 700? It is the only Constitution written in etch a sketch.

I honestly have no insider knowledge at all of this stuff. But if their football program was truly losing tens of millions of dollars annually, I don't see how they could keep it.

And still, no one in this entire thread (so far) has answered my original question. I honestly do not see why the U. of Alabama would care one way or another about the UAB football program (unless it was losing bazillions for the state university system, that makes some sense).

Article I read, if I am remembering correctly, quoted Watts as saying the consulting report/decision had been reached much earlier. But that the administration wanted to allow the team to play the season without distractions.

If that is the case, it would be my guess that the "rumor" was started/leaked by someone inside the program that was hoping to play on the emotions of the public.

It is my understanding that no one has presented a financially sound proposal of how UAB football could function. Like it or not, that was the game that UAB supporters knew they were playing...and the most common defense has been "evil BOT", "horrible Bear Jr", etc. I guess if you can't argue the facts then just play on emotions as the hail mary attempt.

And before we hear about all the schools that lose money with football and keep their programs. I agree...it is horrible that money is creating fewer haves and more have nots in CFB. But the BOT in this case is not responsible for those schools...just ours.
