"If we could do it over, we'd definitely kick it deep this time."

I love CMR, but I'm so sick of these stupid decisions.

The squib is a common way to avoid big returns. It's not a bad call. The defense didn't stop the QB run like they should have, and then GT had a great kick.

You can always blame the coach for making the "wrong" call when things go wrong, but it was a textbook call, IMO

Of course, there have been a lot of statistical analysis guys who point out, year after year, that the "textbook calls" - especially late in the game - tend to be designed not to lose, as opposed to designed to win.

Enh - it is what it is.

That's horseshite. It gave GT the ball at the 43 yard line. That's inexcusable. Kick the damn ball deep and cover it or kick it out of bounds and let them have it at the 35.

GT has been running the ball for 5-7 yards at a time. The QB missed 2/3 of his passes on the day. The kicker's long for the year was 42 or something like that. It was the safe call and I don't fault it. It just didn't go our way, again, which is the Georgia way.

You have to know your opponent though. Kick it deep, and the 20 yard scramble at the end means nothing. The likelihood of them hitting a deep pass was very low.

If they needed a touchdown I would have agreed with you. Considering they only needed a field goal it was the wrong play call.

Originally said I thought the squib was the right call. The more I think about it, our kick coverage has been spot on all season and especially today. Didn't think their kicker could hit one from 50+ but still...regardless, letting Thomas get that many yards was awful though.

Our offense disappearing after the 1st quarter until the end of the game didn't help, not sure what happened to our run blocking.

The squib was the right call, IMO. If they kick it deep and GT returns it for a TD, I guarantee everyone here screams "FIRE RICHT FOR NOT SQUIBBING IT!!"

It was the right call. The defense didn't do their job and GT got the perfect kick from their kicker.

No, it was a bad call. Horribly bad actually. We have great coverage teams and were only up by 3. Terrible terrible call that cost us the game.

Zero excuse for it.

We had been kicking arse on the kick coverage. Kimbrough was a monster on the coverage all day. Kick it deep and all you have to do is cover one play. Game over. Instead you give them the kick and 2 more plays for a chance to score. 1 vs 3 plays to cover....hmm I'm going to say cover 1 play. Don't give me this shite about statistics. Put the best person out there and kick it in the back of the end zone. :18 and no TOs. Come on. We had been aggressive all day. Why stop?

Sometimes you have to give credit o the other team. If he kicks the ball deep and they return, everyone bitches.

I would have kicked it out of bounds and made them start it at the 35.

But credit Tech for getting in position and kicking a fricking 53 yarder.

I wouldn't go that far ... bad call ... I would have kicked it deep, but to say it cost us the game ... nah ... it was a combination of things.

The squib was absolutely stupid. Anyone who says otherwise is simply gonna defend bad decisions regardless, or has low football IQ

The problem was the prevent defense that allowed Thomas to run for 20 yards

No. Not in that situation. If we are up more than 3, then sure. But it was the wrong call in that situation.

the squib kick was poorly executed. Tech had no luck on returns yet so i was hoping we would kick it deep. But i get the play it safe call.

The Defense play was terrible tho. We spied their qb with Floyd. Never good to spy with a guy slower than the qb.

but the part of the failure that really bothers me was not attempting to block the kick. We blocked one already, ended up blocking a freaking XP, but don't even try to get to a 53 yarder that had to be kicked low and cleared the bar by a foot? That makes no sense.
