Coach Mason is apparently refusing to say the word Tennessee this week. I understand where he's coming from, I think, as he's trying to find some motivation for the team and it's hate week so there's that. But refusing to say the word Tennessee when you live, work, and your university is located in Tennessee? I don't find it offensive but I do find it strange.

Vandy peeps, what have you heard on this one? Thoughts on it? Randomways, I know you're around here somewhere, can you enlighten me on this? Is there a particular reason behind it?

Apparently OH state and MI do this, too. Always struck me as dumb.

One thing is for certain: having a smart lil bro with a great hospital, particularly their burn center, as well as one that serves as a good center of higher learning and research, all while aiding the state of Tennessee tangibly in several ways as an in-state rival for over 100 years is way better than being an insufferable jackass. FWIW, Vandy Medical is outstanding as is UT Medical and both have top of the line research in different areas but from your comment I'm afraid your condition may be incurable. Even so, perhaps one of them will take you on as a charity case.

Do they do with places they live in? That's what strikes me as weird about it. I'm all for motivation if you think it will work but not saying your state's name just because an opponent has it in their name is what is odd to me.

You didn't ask a question. You made an incorrect assumption, attempted to insult both schools, and displayed a rather amazing level of asshattery, even for the tRant.

Utah calls BYU "that team up north." Butch called Bama "the red team" last year. It's bush league and ineffective regardless of who's doing it.

When Butch did it, it was out of respect for Sabans program.

True but I didn't care for it. I understood why because the whole thing was don't let the mental aspect of Bama's dominance beat you before you even play the game - they're good but they're human sorta thing. But what makes this case kinda weird to me is that unlike with the usage of the Red Team - we don't live in the state of Alabama so he wasn't refusing to say our own state's name. THAT is what makes it strange to me. Vandy is in Tennessee and what's been reported is that Mason isn't saying Tennessee this week.

That's the part I don't get.
