Good for him. That goes to show what a good special teams coach can do for you. Parkey struggled with 50 yarders for us.

Too bad he couldn't kick for shite in January.

Im glad I benched him and played Vinnateri today.
I also benched Tannihill and played Flaco

You do know that kickers/punters work and are coached by special kicking coaches during the offseason and not special teams coaches right?
That would be like a QB going to George Whitfield then praising his OC for mechanics improvements

So you are saying that there is no coach on an NFL staff to work with kickers during the season?
Posted on 11/23/14 at 11:04 pm to Weagle25
Don't care.. He didn't deliver when we needed

Posting this here because is semi-sorta related. The ultimate troll IMO opinion is seeing guys like Bates do so well in the NFL when they were meh during their career at Auburn
I think we actually do them a favor. They're still fresh and relatively healthy by the time they hit the NFL. As long as they can mask the bad habits they learned at Auburn, it seems like our guys do well. Good for them now but sucked for us then

Kickers and punters, at least through the college level, have personal kicking coaches for mechanics. NFL teams may hire on those guys but college teams don't do that.
So blaming or praising a ST coach for the kicking prowess of K/P is ridiculous. Other than recruiting them they don't touch that

As average as Bates was at LB, he would've been an incredible safety I believe. His 2009 true frosh year at safety was awesome.. he was like Greg Blue or Junior Rosegreen back there for us as far as laying licks and finding the ball was concerned.
I respect him for making the move to LB and I'm glad it worked out for him in the end because it definitely wasn't a move I thought would pan out for a kid that was 5'11'' 200lb or so coming into AU in 09.

I did the same frikking thing. I had Parkey all year, but picked up V when a guy dropped him during his bye week. Now there's a good chance it's going to cost me a win. Grrr..,
