I got you. It just seems like it's always something more punitive and brutal than a couple of cops beating protesters. High tensions at play and you just need somebody to pull a trigger and all hell breaks loose. It's a high energy reaction. When it gets out of control, it does so with explosive force.

I feel like with the internet -- it takes a lot less. Like at this point we have people all over the world watching, and most of Mexico is doing the same. One incident is now is all it'll take before things get out of control.

Your typical Mexican isn't even that impacted by what goes on with the government -- except for elections where they're bribed to vote one way or another.
Most of them have been living the hell of answering to cartels for the better part of a few decades, so they're kind of accustomed to the lunatic dictator angle.

I have no doubt that Governors of other states will try to break away and start their own nations if there's a large movement in Mexico City.
Like I said, a couple of states have already tried (and have historically tried before) so I could see them immediately going asunder if given the chance.
I'd serve in Yucatan's army if they'd have me.

I can leave any time I want, but I make good money and I've been using my influence as a teacher and self-defense instructor to start building my little militia.
There's a reason I offer self-defense lessons at half price for students.

For the long haul, only way I get out of here is if the military takes over everything -- but even then I have the background to be productive in a stratocracy.

Personally, I think Mexico/Mexicans is/are ambivalent to the U.S. I know a lot of citizens here who would love if America just invaded and took everything for themselves, but simultaneously hate American culture and the like.
There's always the threat that America is controlling everything, and I can't say I blame people for thinking that. Even the massacre mentioned earlier -- there are strong indications that the CIA was heavily involved with communist degutting.
I can't imagine America is thrilled with the Mexican government, though.
