Where do you put the SEC as a basketball conference as of now?

Definitely feel like it'll be more respectable than last year even though UF will fall off a little bit. Could end up being a good conference instead of an average one

The SEC is horrid. I keep thinking it will get better each year but there's only one thing that gets better each year and it starts with a U and ends with a K.

Why is the SEC not as good as some of the other big conferences in basketball? I'm guessing it has something to do with how we focus on football more.

Better than last season but it's not going to stabilize until there's some coaching stability across the conference. If you look at the power basketball conferences right now, good majority are largely stable at the HC position.

You're right about Arky and Florida.

We've always been respectable, but I think basketball is just something to do in the offseason unless you are Kentucky.

Kentucky looks like they invented the sport right now.

Very little doubt to me Florida will be better by the end of the season. With the way Miami's PG was shooting, anyone would have lost

We looked good yesterday. Want to see us vs some real competition other than a rebuilding ACC has been.

Lsu could be another team looking to break through this year. Haven't seen them yet, and honestly I have heard this story before.

Everyone else is bad.

It's bad. Kentucky is by far the jewel of basketball this year though. Arkansas might not be bad but the other twelve aren't great.

If by respectable you mean shitty, then yeah it will be more shitty than last year.

I think 5 teams can get in. Kentucky is in a world of its own, but I could see Florida, Arky, and maybe 2 of LSU, Georgia, Tenn, and Mizzou getting in.

Right you are methinks. Name a school or two who is great in both football and basketball. ???

There have been schools in the past who were able to pull it off for short durations, but who has done so continuously?

It's almost like such would violate the laws of physics or something.

Never contemplated this with such focus, but now that I think about it... weird.

While in previous years, this has been a league that was very weak at the bottom, this year the problem has changed.

This is a league that is super weak in the middle, with an improving bottom, and a fairly robust top.

There are three teams that should win 12 or 13 conference games, minimum-- not because they are so strong, but just because you can trust them not to completely go monkey-fricking-a-basketball for stretches of 15 minutes at a time.

The class of the league is obviously the Kentucky-Arkansas-Florida trio; LSU has players, and you can see where they will get things sorted out as they play together a bit, figure out their crunch time arrangements, and get used to playing together.

That's about the end of the good news. Your Best of the Rest is probably Georgia, but do you trust that they won't regress to the mean after last year?

After that, you face a dart board of teams you wouldn't trust to do well in the MEAC. South Carolina and TAMU might be on the rise a bit, but they haven't shown anything. Tennessee, Missouri, and Ole Miss are teetering on complete implosion. Do you really trust an Anthony Grant Alabama team to not find a comically bad way to underachieve? I mean, at this point, you almost end up picking Vandy 6th out of the fact that they're rarely terrible, and that may be enough.

Auburn is probably another year from being a real comer in the league-- some rebuilds just take time.

The forecast for this year is for three teams to dominate the league in the W-L column, and for a bunch of teams to finish in that 9-9 to 7-11 range, as no one is good enough to run away from teams on the road, and teams swap home-court wins.

There will be a bunch of unwatchable SEC basketball this fall.

That ship has sailed. We were good on the road last year.
