In terms of pure coaching acumen, Gary Pinkel is the best in this league

Gary Pinkel is the best in the league, bar none. What he does with Mizzou's "perceived" talent is nothing short of spectacular. Based on Rivals Rankings, Missouri's offensive/defensive 2 deep includes....

**** - 3
*** - 18
** - 2

It's just unreal what they've accomplished in this league. Who says you can't win without 4 and 5 stars?

I don't know but Tennessee seems to prove they can't win with 4 and 5 stars

Pinkel and Mullen just love to give hard working kids a chance.

He's a solid coach that has taken advantage of a weakass East for two years straight.

Mullen definitely falls into this group too. Great talent evaluators, great coaches.

Dooley lived off of the ****s no one else wanted. Make no mistake, Butch Jones is recruiting a different level athlete to TN right now. I like where we're at going forward.

I would tend to agree that he's a fantastic evaluator of talent, and has a gift for getting the most out of players. Probably not the best overall coach in the league though, his in-game coaching leaves us scratching our heads sometimes.

It is that Mizzou d line coach that amazes me.

I mean, I can get finding "hidden talent" at other positions but people can spot elite D lineman from junior high. It takes a freak mixture of size and speed to be elite, and it makes d line talent the hardest recruiting battles.

Meanwhile Mizzou gets whoever and has an elite line. If I was an SEC East team with a better brand (say a Tenn) I will basically offer every lineman Mizzou offered and try to steal them because obviously they are onto something.

Better hurry MIZZOU is creeping up on y'all, at some point MIZZOU is gonna break through and be the school where talent goes to get coached up and off to the Sunday league. If that happens it'll be a lot easier to hire a big time coach to replace Pinkel.

Pinkel definitely knows what he's looking for as a talent evaluator.

He finds underappreciated kids with talent that can be coached and groomed into good to great players via hard work. He has an ability to project where a player will be 2-3 years and sets them up accordingly. He rather redshirt a freshmen than play one and most won't see the field much until their redshirt sophomore season.

As a head coach he gives his assistants a lot of control, sometimes too much. And I think he's improved as a game manager since joining the SEC. For instance, the idea of passing deep in his own territory to win and close out the A&M game was his idea. The XII Pinkel would have gone conservative, ran three times and punted.

He's become slightly and selectively more aggressive and it's been good for him. I like him.

If yall keep winning, sure. If I was a Mizzou fan I would also root for tOSU to win out and still miss the playoffs. If you can convince that Ohio talent that the Big 10 is a dead end then yall might make the kind of pipeline needed to secure the program's future.

Is this thread a reverse psychology kinda thing or some kind of back handed compliment thing or what? I'm sooo confused.

In all seriousness. From what I understand a lot of the credit should go to their strength & agility program and those coaches. It is supposed to be one of the best. That is how by the time these 2 & 3 stars recruits are juniors they are equivalent to 4 & 5 star. recruits physically.

You screwed up by using the word "acumen."

"...keenness and depth of perception, discernment, or discrimination especially in practical matters."

Saban, hands down. Hell, he is running the Gumps llike a successful professional program.

I like and respect Pinkel, but he lags way behind Saban. I think Saban is the best since Spurrier in his prime.

Teams already do this. I'm amazed that we have so much trouble getting highly rated DL. We should be getting a five star DT this year.
