Myles Garrett vs Derek Barnett: behind the #s

Garrett leads all-SEC freshman in sacks with 11, Derek Barnett is in 2nd with 7. Currently, Barnett does have more TFLs than Garrett.
Myles has already passed Clowney's record, and Barnett will tie it if he manages one more.
However looking past the #s.
8 of Garrett's 11 came against Rice, Lamar, and ULM
All 7 of Barnett's have come against SEC teams.

Barnett is better IMO... at this point anyway.

More Tackles and TFLs overall, and more than twice as many sacks in league play.
Basically the only argument you can make for Myles over Barnett is that he was rated higher coming out of highschool.

Barnett led the country in TFL last week or week before last.
Not sure where he's at now
Edit: Tied for 7th in the country and 2nd in the SEC. 2 TFL behind Shane Ray.

Not so sure it is such a lock for MG as you think.

Garrett looks better to me. I didn't think Barnett stood out particularly, at least against UGA. Clearly he's very good, just didn't jump off the screen like Garrett has

Myles will be the better player in the long run.

Do you remember the video of Barnett in the HS playoffs last year that made news? The announcer goes off on Barnett for a late hit (he basically runs the QB out of bounds hard at the end of the game) but the announcer's words are worth paying attention to because I have a feeling a certain team is going to pay for them: [insert snob voice of indeterminate accent] "how classless! Have fun on Rocky Top, have fun playing on Rocky Top [more snide words]..."
I'd bet good money that Barnett and the rest of the D watch that video and listen to those words in preparation for the last game of the year. Barnett will definitely want to make sure that announcer knows just how much he enjoys knocking the shite out of his (the announcer's) favorite team's QB.

I think both are already upper end SEC DEs. Glad we will get to watch both of them play for another 2 years.
