I always enjoy LSU week because the teams are usually so similar, the games are such a dog fight, and the coaches offer an extreme - and enjoyable - style contrast.

A buddy of mine worked in the football operations staff at LSU for Saban's last year and for Miles' first two years.

Favorite Saban story from him:
Walked down same hall at same time every..single..day. Always saw Saban walking, head down reading something. Always said "Good morning, Coach". Saban never even glanced up. One day decided to just skip the "Good morning" as he thought Saban either didn't care or didn't hear. Got three steps past Saban and heard "hey! Where's my 'good morning', damnit?" He was in stunned silence and then finally mustered a "good morning, coach". Saban smiled and said, "you too". That's the extent of their communication for an entire year.

Favorite Miles story:
buddy caught a ride to work one morning, but didn't have a ride home. When he was leaving he was asking if anyone could give him a ride and he heard, "I got ya, man. Let's go" from behind him. It was Les. Miles drove a lincoln towncar then and it had tons of pictures his kids had colored for him scattered in the backseat. The drive was about 15 minutes and Les talked about my buddy's family, his own family, everything except football.

I'm thrilled with Saban as Bama's coach, and he has lightened up a ton on a personal/relational level over the last 4 years, but I'll give Les his due. He's the kind of guy you'd love to just hang out with, and I'd absolutely let my sons play ball for a guy like Les one day.

Na, Soviet union had crappy equipment that won on attrition. Germany had the best equipment and soldiers and can beat any one head on. It just couldn't beat itself. That's Bama.

Very Ron Swanson-esque

When Saban worked at LSU he was very particular to get his clothes from a certain Baton Rouge haberdashery. The clothes would not be fitted at the store. The employee who took the measurements had very firm instructions "whatever you do, do NOT ask him any questions about anything other than the measurements and no small-talk of any kind"....it was very stressful to the guy, who happens to be a really nice professional guy.

Saban is a clinical narcissist, for the win. TEXTBOOK. Sometimes narcissists can be pretty good in leadership positions, as long as The Tribute is sufficient. Saban demands Gumps get on their knees. Gumps comply. Everybody wins.

As was the case with Tiger fans once, too. Don't act like you guys didn't love the guy while he was there.

I really think Saban is much less of an a-hole now than he was while at LSU.

We absolutely did. Why do you think there is the anger towards him for leaving?

I've never known a coach that fits the culture of a program better than Les at LSU, except maybe Paterno at PSU.

Paterno didn't fit the culture, he created it. Miles fits perfectly with LSU culture - especially if he's winning.
