Why were those games blow outs? What area of the game was subpar that lead to both teams gaining convincing victories?

How much have those areas improved since those games?

Here's to a great, injury free game

IMO both teams just stopped the power run, that was the key on defense. For us offensively, Josh Robinson having like 200 rushing yards and Dak adding another 100.

Getting them early was great too, you still have a huge advantage if you can shut down the run though. Have to be physical in the trenches on both sides.

State - offensive line wasn't making holes; we weren't taking what they would give (pass); center of the defense couldn't stop Dak

Auburn - one of those nights where everything went wrong...if you take all the 4th downs inside the Auburn 30 and converted those to field goals, the game wouldn't have looked as bad (but it was still was bad)...see State game above as well

State was physically superior. Hit us in the mouth and we never overcame their momentum. Offense was bland. Oline wasn't very good (state had something to do with it). Defense was weak at DT and middle lb. State gashed us where we were the weakest.

Auburn was a case of the first road game in a hostile environment. offense couldn't do shite (more from being inept than what auburns d did)and the defense got tired early.

Not sure. UF, UK, and Ole Miss aren't exactly great offenses. I think we have improved on the interior line and at lb. Still worried what happens if our offense has 3-4 3 and outs in a row. Our young players seem to be getting better. Still have issues with our QB. We have too much talent at wr to not make sure they are part of the gameplan.

We replaced our senior MLB with a much more athletic sophmore + our freshman DT is coming into his own = no more gashing runs up the middle

O-line finally gelling and Jennings making just enough plays to keep defenses honest.

Fournette found a couple juke moves

Finally, playcalling has also been much better, but the defense not allowing us to get down early has been huge in that it allows us to run the ball for 4 qrts instead of just 1.5

Edit: basically everything said above this post

State came out and punched us in the mouth and we just weren't prepared. We had no answer for Prescott and offensively our O-line played poorly. We were exposed up the middle

Auburn got up early after we couldn't move the ball at all. Defense was on the field the whole game. Harris started and looked very freshman-esque. He totally missed receivers. O-line played poorly. Welter still couldn't keep up and Beckwith had no idea where to line up.

The light has now clicked for a lot of the young guys especially Beckwith. O-line has started to understand Grimes' scheme and they are playing with a tenacity.

Jennings has started to come on a little, still a lot to be seen there.

Bottom line is we were weak on the offensive line because of inexperience in the system and we were weak up the middle defensively. That is a recipe for disaster in the SEC.

This game is personal because I am married to an Alabama alum (who cares about football). It makes my life a little easier if LSU wins but I think its going to be a classic.

LSU was starting a True freshman and RS freshman a DT in front of a human sieve at MLB. Those two DTs are improving every game and the sieve has been relegated to special teams.

First, only AU was a blowout. Regardless of what or how it happened, MSU came within two feet of losing on the game's final play.
The reason for the offensive success of both was due largely to the youth movement of the Tigers; Chief still trying to figure out schemes and personnel placement that would fit his group. Actually, the film from the AU game is what finally led Chief and Les to roll the dice a bit and put some talented youth in leadership positions, namely Kendell Beckwith and Adams the FS. Both are big-time playmakers and the kind of guys who raise the level of those around them. The other big change is going with a "Mustang" package on the DL on most passing downs. This allows Hunter and Rasco to make more plays on the wide stuff.

So LSU fans get to use this line, but AU couldn't in regards to Marshall last year?

Auburn played lights out
If LSU brings A game they probably still lose that one

MSU was winnable, they just got off to a terrific start and really took it to LSU and the LSU offense is not built to come back from the onslaught state brought. It was there night.

Definitely Beckwith play has improved the middle of the defense and the emergence of Godchaux on dline has helped. Offensive line is playing more cohesive now as well because they were shuffling personnel for awhile and a couple were playing out of position.
