I wrote a brief biography of my father for my blog on the day he died. Writing it was a bit therapeutic for me.

He was really an up-from-his-bootstraps man, and I'm proud of his life's accomplishments.

He survived the holocaust and used the free market to help support his family after the war when they had nothing. He bartered with the Russian soldiers to help feed his family, then came to America and became successful as a physician helping people.

I will edit in a quote below from my biography that I think most of you will find amusing.

"My father made housecalls for $5. Today, few, if any doctors, bother making housecalls. His services as a physician alleviated the suffering of many, and he helped save people’s lives, but in 1975 he was diagnosed with malignant melanoma and was given 6 months to live. This prompted him to choose an easier career as a staff physician for the University of Georgia. However, when it became evident the deadly skin cancer was not going to be a death sentence, he got bored…about the only ailment he ever saw from the students attending UGA was VD. In 1977 he took a job teaching family practice at the Medical College of Georgia and also held the position of Medical Director of the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home. He held this position until he retired in 2000."

Oh yeah, I forgot to add this. He was a Georgia Bulldog fan. As luck probably has it, the Georgia Bulldogs are probably going to win the National Championship this year, and he's not going to live to see it.

I think I better barricade myself in my house for the next 3 months to make sure nothing happens to me, so I get to see it.

Such a loving tribute to an honored father by a devoted son. May he rest in peace.

Good luck to the Dawgs. It would be remarkable if they win out and take the first true major college football championship. I'll think of you and your father if they do.

Your father sounds like an amazing guy. So sorry for the difficult time you're going through. My thoughts are definitely with you.

And wow...MCG! I live 20 minutes from there! Small world.

Regrets for your dads passing but great you have memories. here is a funny and true story.

I am an Auburn grad. My great uncle Bill was a HUGE Georgia grad and very active booster. In fact back when alumni could scout HS football games etc, he was very active and scouted/recruited North Carolina for Georgia. (this was in the 60s and 70's).

He got to be very close with Coach Dooley as a result. Dooley is an Auburn grad as is well known.

When Uncle Bill died, I was a pawlbearer as was Coach Dooley. Dooley stood beside me as we prepared to carry the casket for the final burial. As we stood there quietly. I whispered "War Eagle Coach" to Dooley.

Without missing a beat, Dooley said "Dont let your uncle hear you say that!".
