I've seen countless times over the past couple weeks that the Ole Miss and Miss St. defenses are on par with those of 2011 Alabama and LSU. It's laughable. Let's take a closer look.

QB: Dak Prescott > AJ McCarron
RB: Josh Robinson < Trent Richardson/Eddie Lacy
WR: Laquon Treadwell > Reuben Randle
WR: DeRunya Wilson < Odell Beckham Jr.
TE: Evan Engram > DeAngelo Peterson
LT: Laremy Tunsil > Barrett Jones
LG: Ben Beckwith < Chance Warmack
C: Dillon Day < WIlliam Vlachos
RG: Justin Malone < Will Blackwell
RT: Fahn Cooper < D.J. Fluker

DE: Preston Smith < Sam Montgomery
DT: Robert Nkemdiche >Jesse Williams
DT: Chris Jones > Michael Brockers
DE: C.J. Johnson < Barkevious Mingo
LB: Serderius Bryant < Dont'a Hightower
LB: Bernardrick McKinney < C.J. Mosley
LB: D.T. Shackelford < Courtney Upshaw/Kevin Minter
CB: Senquez Golson < Morris Claiborne
CB: Will Redmond < Tyrann Mathieu
FS: Tony Connor < Eric Reid
SS: Cody Prewitt < Mark Barron

Team Defenses:
2011 Alabama: 8.2 pts/game, 184 yards/game
2011 LSU: 11.3 pts/game, 262 yards/game
2014 Ole Miss: 10.6 pts/game, 291 yards/game
2014 Miss. St.: 20.0 pts/game, 429 yards/game

Just to put those defenses in perspective, Ole Miss is an elite defense this year and has given up almost as many yard through 7 games as Alabama did in 13.

Nobody on the Mississippi defenses would start for LSU/ Bama in 2011. And that's not a knock.

Ole Miss and State are both very good, maybe even national title worthy.

2011 Alabama and LSU were 2 of the 5 best teams of the last 10 years and certainly 2 of the 4 or 5 best defenses of the last 10 years.

While the 2011 Alabama and LSU defensive units were two of the GOATs, you're a god damn fool if you don't think Robert Nkemdiche wouldn't start for either of those teams.

No one actually believes our defense is better than those two. Our defense is great, but those defenses were the absolute greatest.

Agree. Weakest combined point on those 2 teams was probably interior DL. It wasn't weak, but it was the weakest point.

Miss St defense can't even be talked about in the same breath with those other defenses. Alabama's 2011 defense was the best in college football in the last 40 years.

That secondary talent is unbelievable (first rounders bolded):
Honey Badger
Mo Claiborne
Dee Milliner
Dre Kirkpatrick
Mark Barron

Robert Lester
Eric Reid
Cody Prewitt
Senquez Golson
Tony Conner (potentially)
Ron Brooks
Tharold Simon

Wrong. 1992 Alabama > 2011 Alabama > 2011 LSU

Yep - Milliner and Dre were both 1st round picks and didn't even make 1st team All 2011-Bama LSU.

And I agree with above, Ole Miss has earned the right to at least be discussed with this group. State's defense is good but it isn't anywhere near this conversation.

Both the Alabama and LSU units stopped the run impressively too.

Our defense reminds me of a poor man's 2011 LSU unit with more strength from the interior DL than DEs.

I'm not sure where anyone said anything to the contrary. The whole point of this thread is stupid.

I haven't seen anyone argue that our defense is on par with those two units, for the record.
