7 weeks in, Pro Football Focus has graded the NFL 1st round draft picks thus far. Here are their grades on SEC players:

quote:

1. Jadeveon Clowney, Houston Texans, OLB
Grade: +0.7
Snaps: 23
Analysis: Injury has taken Clowney from the public eye, helping to temper expectations but also managing to disappoint football fans eager to see how he would fare. One stop and just 23 snaps to show for his rookie year thus far.

quote:

2. Greg Robinson, St. Louis Rams, OG
Grade: +2.1
Snaps: 137
Analysis: Looked lost in preseason with positional flip flopping much to his detriment. That saw him start the season on the bench, but the usual output from Davin Joseph has seen him start the past two weeks. Robinson has looked good and that’s encouraging.

quote:

6. Jake Matthews, Atlanta Falcons, OT
Grade: -27.8
Snaps: 350
Analysis: Now, nobody knows just how hurt Matthews is and how much that ankle is affecting him. What we do know is that he doesn’t look good out there right now. These past three weeks have been tough to watch, propelling Matthews to the lowest grade of all tackles. Not what Atlanta had hoped for.

quote:

7. Mike Evans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, WR
Grade: +1.0
Snaps: 239
Analysis: The Bucs were likely expecting a bigger impact from Evans, with six rookies currently recording more yards. A lot of that owes to how bad the Bucs have generally been on offense, but there’s not been enough eye catching by the Bucs’ first-round pick.

quote:

12. Odell Beckham Jr., New York Giants, WR
Grade: +3.2
Snaps: 165
Analysis: It says a lot for the talent of Beckham that he could miss so much offseason work and yet hit the ground running like he has. With three touchdowns already and a game-turning intervention against Atlanta, right now the Giants look like they’ve hit the jackpot.

quote:

17. C.J. Mosley, Baltimore Ravens, LB
Grade: +8.2
Snaps: 478
Analysis: He’s proven to be exactly what the team needed, adding a whole new dimension to the Ravens’ run D. It’s there where he leads all inside linebackers with his +8.9 grade, with Mosley being extremely active through the first seven weeks of the season.

quote:

19. Ja’Wuan James, Miami Dolphins, OT
Grade: -2.3
Snaps: 433
Analysis: It looked like he was getting found out with his effort versus Green Bay being a disappointment. James bounced back nicely against Chicago to continue what has been a largely quiet start. That’s good for a rookie tackle.

quote:

21. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Green Bay Packers, S
Grade: +0.9
Snaps: 363
Analysis: This rookie has been brought along by the Packers to the point of making his first start against the Panthers this week. The gameplan is working.

quote:

22. Johnny Manziel, Cleveland Browns, QB
Grade: 0.0
Snaps: 5
Analysis: The Browns have got what they wanted out of him this year. Brian Hoyer is playing steady football and they don’t have to rush Manziel into the starting lineup. The upshot are five snaps, one attempt and no completions.

quote:

23. Dee Ford, Kansas City Chiefs, OLB
Grade: -1.0
Snaps: 32
Analysis: Ford has been out-snapped by six other 3-4 rookie outside linebackers and he can’t really blame injury. At this point he hasn’t looked up to an every-down role and with Justin Houston and Tamba Hali on the field he’ll struggle to get pass-rushing looks. Clearly one for the future.

quote:

29. Dominique Easley, New England Patriots, DT
Grade: -5.6
Snaps: 147
Analysis: It’s true that he hasn’t really done an awful lot so far. The pressure has been rare and he’s too easily moved in the run game. It might take some time to get him up to full fitness and form.

In his defense, Blalock hasn't been doing much either, and he has gone up against Jared Allen (and willie young who is tied for 2nd most sacks), Jason Pierre-Paul, and the Ravens D.

But I think he looks bad because the entire offense looks bad.

I remember so well the Aggie "bust" talk with regard to Greg Robinson.

Its almost as if it was only a few weeks ago.

It's CJ or fuller. CJ will pull away though.

Honestly, I an a bit worried about Matthews. All of the returning Aggie o-line starters look worse this year. It might have been easier to pass block when defenses didn't want to get to Johnny because he would run right around them.

If you read the entire article, the rankings of 3 or 4 other defensive rookies blow his ranking out of the water

I really think Jake is playing pretty hurt at this point.

He was solid his first week or so, got hurt, and then every other Falcon OL got hurt and I think he is just gutting it out.

They are starting UDFA James Stone from TN at center this week for goodness sakes.

Hahahahahaha my gosh. Mosely, Donald and Barr (and maybe Verrett) are all clearly the Top 3/4, and while Donald and Barr have graded higher Mosely is being asked to run the Ravens defense as a rookie.

While I wouldn't say he is easily DROTY, he is easily in the discussion.

Nothing to worry about with Matthews.
He is a rookie who has a nagging injury and is playing LT, arguably the hardest position in all of football to play (especially as a rookie).

No one expected him to be great this year. Doesn't help Falcons Oline is now using a 3rd string RT and a 3rd string practice squad center. Guards have to make up for that, leaving Matthews who practiced all training camp as a RT by himself.

Agree. The Falcons OL at training camp start was actually serviceable (not amazing, but serviceable). Their injuries have honestly been insane. 2 centers, 2 tackles and a guard are all out for the season. And like we said above, I'm 100% convinced Matthews is playing hurt at a position he probably shouldn't be playing this early in his career with no help around him.

It's a disaster.

- starting LT Sam Baker out for season
- backup (now starting) C Peter Konz out for season
- starting C Joe Hawley out for season
- backup (now starting) OT Lamar Holmes out for season
- backup OL Mike Johnson out for season

Hint: Only 2 have graded higher.

Still glad we took Matthews over Greg. Both will be good, but Jake is better suited for what the birds are trying to do.

Jake Mathews was doing great before the injuries. He hasn't looked good but I imagine he will be fine and be really good in the future.

I pray

Agree. I think Robinson will be a very good NFL guard, but drafting a guard with a top 3 pick is lunacy.

Matthews will be fine.

I assume he is talking overall list, in which Verrett, Donald and Mack rate higher. However, all of them are playing a certain role (except Verrett). Mosely basically stepped in and is running the Baltimore defense.
