What did you think of the hire of Brian VanGorder for Auburn? Considering what he has done for Notre Dame, do you feel as if the negativity surrounding the hiring of VanGorder was warranted?

I liked him, personally. Ellis Johnson was just a better hire after Chizik & staff were canned

AU fans liked him. We were in full retard mode at the time, and we all knew it.

I just remember alot of groans around Auburn once Chizik hired him. "He doesnt fit the AU scheme" was a common complaint.

Loved Van Gorder when he was at Georgia. Had our defense frothing at the mouth at all times and seemed a very good judge of talent.
Good DC, imo. Hope Auburn never hires him again.

I think you're remembering wrong. We didn't have a scheme, we had new DCs like every year.

No there weren't. The vast majority of Auburn fans were excited about the hire. Van Gorder got a raw deal from Chizik and I hope he does well at ND.

They loved it up front -- and then realized he couldn't stop the spread. He's hell on wheels against pro-style teams though.

no way. I think most were overly giddy (myself included) just because it seemed to be what we needed. Now granted we found out we were horribly wrong, and it only took a 3-9 season to show us...but at the time we all started growing mustaches.

He continues to struggle defending the spread. ASU will handle ND in a few weeks, just watch.
Outside of that, he didn't handle the turmoil of 2012 too well, but I don't really falt him. It was awful all the way around.
