WDE24's Top 5 SEC RB's Week 7

As always this list chronicles the top SEC running backs by production on the field to date for the current season. Objective statistics are the primary criteria utilized in formulating this list, however, the statistics are set into context based on the quality of opponent upon which the statistics were accumulated. In some instances where the choice is close, a subjective eye test is also taken into account. However, hype, injuries, suspensions, etc. are not. This isn't a list of most talented or a prediction of NFL draft status. It is just an unbiased look at which 5 SEC RB's are getting the job done the best on the field. As such, this list will likely drastically change each week, especially early in the season.
Note: This list only looks at performance at the RB position. Thus, kick and punt return yardage aren't part of the evaluation. However, receiving out of the RB position is accounted for.
1. Todd Gurley - This list only ranks per production. As a result, a player gets no credit when hemisses a game. Despite that, Gurley still has the best over all production and remains at #1 for at least this week.
2. Josh Robinson - JR had a good game in MSU's best win to date. Still, Gurley's per game production and efficiency are slightly better while Robinson's total yardage is 9 yards ahead of Gurley. A decent game in Week 8 will likely push Robinson ahead of the suspended Gurley.
3. Curtis Payne - Strange to see him this high as the sense from many is that he is under performing, but the numbers don't lie and none of the backs below him have better over all production numbers against good competition.
4. Mike Davis - Davis has started pouring on the production after a slow start. Couple his resurgence with rough games by contenders Alex Collins and TJ Yeldon and Davis jumps to #4.
5. Alex Collins - While Williams looked like the better back against Bama, Collins edges out his teammate to stay in the top 5.
Worth a mention: Johnathan Williams, Leornard Fournette, TJ Yeldon

Again this week with that horrible injustice which you inevitably commit? Why? How can you analyze the running backs in the fashion you have, using the data you use and arrive at this conclusion? It's a monumental disservice to college football, my grandma and America! I'm done with your RB rankings.

You can leave Gurley there at #1 and move the others accordingly.
Gurley will be the #1 back taken in the draft unless he gets hurt.

Says a lot about how good Gurley is when he's still ranked number 1 after missing a complete game and only playing 2 series in another game.

It does, but to set it in complete context, he only has 4 fewer touches than Robinson and has more than other backs on the list.

Does your list account for scalping? Collins and Williams, both, would have superior numbers if they weren't sharing carries (most of the guys on this list don't share the backfield with equally talented players)?

No, but consider this: Collins only has 15 fewer touches than Josh Robinson and Williams only 18 fewer. If one of them carried the primary load, he would probably be 3rd on the list. Also, Collins and Williams benefit more than any other of the backs on the list from production against an FCS opponent.

CAP is the most over rated RB in the SEC.
Frankly, this is the second time this season when I thought he would probably drop off the list after watching a game. Nevertheless, no other back ranked below him has produced as much.
