Looks like it's already a rough offseason start for Billy D and the Gators.

quote:

Florida coach Billy Donovan announced Wednesday afternoon that starting forward Chris Walker will miss the team's first two games of the regular season, plus one exhibition game, due to an unspecified violation of team rules.

Walker will sit out Florida's games against William & Mary and Miami but return on Nov. 21 for the Gators' third regular-season game against Louisiana-Monroe.

quote:

And now we know academics have impacted the Gators' roster again, as Donovan also announced that Florida freshman guard Brandone Francis will have to sit out the 2014-15 season due to academic restraints. Francis, is a four-star shooting guard, will not practice with the team in fall but could be eliglble to do so in spring if he improves his academic standing.

I guess at least he hasn't stolen any tacos

Well they did have some injury issues last year to start the season and we saw how that turned out.

True. And Walker should be back by the time they head to the Battle of Atlantis. But I'd think you'd have to be a little concerned that he's already having to deal with a suspension to start the season that wasn't at the hand of the NCAA.

I think Florida will finish 3rd or 4th in the SEC this year.

Seems like Billy has had to suspend players on his own every year since he's been here.

UF will be fine and in contention for another deep tournament run.

Hopefully we can flip Kevaughn Allen and keep him home. Word is he's giving it serious thought with KJ Hill committed to play football here.

Who is finishing 2cd in the SEC?

It is UF and UK at top again.

Both of these tidbits have been floating around the interwebs for awhile now. They're just now public, but it's not devastating since I already knew about it.

Francis probably wasn't going to play much anyways. The fact that Walker is already in trouble isn't a good sign since we'll need him to take a massive step forward if we're going to hang with UK atop the SEC, but I don't think it's freak-out time yet.

I don't expect to compete for banners this season. I expect a season similar to '11-'12 where we lose some head-scratchers on the road but come together towards the end of the season and make a decent run in the tourney. However, with the SEC being as weak as it is, I'd still be surprised if we finished lower than 2nd in the SEC.

If he is interested at all about playing in the NBA, he should have worked on a hook shot that UF has taught all of its bigs since the 04s left.
