The clock at the end of Bama-Ark

Not saying it made any difference in the outcome, but why did they run off 10 seconds and wind the clock after a Bama penalty when Bama had the ball. There was roughly a minute left in the game and it was 4th down.
If this is the rule, then could a team just line up over and over do an illegal procedure and run 10 seconds off over and over?

The refs suck.
For everybody, but I was asking about an administrative rule.
Those should not be missed in general.
The judgement calls are just a coin flip for all teams.

The 10-second penalty does not apply if:
The clock is stopped when the ball is set for play and will not start until the ball is snapped.
If the team on offense has timeouts and elects to use one in lieu of the runoff.
If the defense declines the runoff (which prevents the offense from committing fouls to intentionally run out the clock). Note that the team on defense may elect to decline the runoff while accepting the yardage penalty, but may not do the reverse.

Not sure, but Bert didn't really argue it that much, so I'm assuming it was legit.
Also, Bama gave Arkansas about 500 chances to win the game and they still didn't do it. Acting like putting 10 seconds back and them having the ball near their goal line would make a difference is laughable.

Anyway, I don't think anyone at Arkansas thinks it would have made a difference, and I don't see anyone in this thread saying it would.
I mean, there's the 1% chance it would have, but like you said, the game was lost before then.
edit: there were a few other officiating screw-ups, like the off-setting penalties on Dan Skipper and whichever Alabama DL smacked him in the face (very intentionally). Dan Skipper didn't do anything to earn a personal foul call on that play.
But, that kind of thing happens in every game and we had our chances. We could have won this game if we had taken the opportunities that were presented to us. The fumble at the goal line being the biggest thing.

The officials had just witnessed 59 minutes of shitty football.... They wanted no more...

Not sure if correct or not, but someone on here said that rule only applied with less than a minute on the clock. If so, seems like the rule could be exploited to run extra clock.

The correct answer is Bert is stupid.
1) He should know the rules.
2) Refer to #1. If he knew the rules the 10 second runoff could have been avoided.

Doesn't that only apply when there is less than 1 minute? The clock was at 1:01.

maybe i'm having a nancy pelosi out of body experience here, but wasnt there an arky player that went down? in which case there would be a 10 second run off. i remember him sitting on the field looking toward the sideline. cant remember the number. and it wasnt the olineman that got bruce lee'd.

The last play was a Bama false start. The clock resumed to run down after the ball was spotted, so bama was able to avoid punting and just ended the game.
In the nfl, the play clock resumes after such a scenario, but only for two consecutive penalties. The 3rd results in an unsportsmanlike conduct flag.
Guess the college rule is similar, and if anyone was paying attention, just watched a great way to close out the final minute or so.
