I've been lurking some of the Auburn boards after their loss because I wanted to see how their reactions compared to ours. It almost seems that Alabama lost last night while the Aubs won.

They seem relatively calm, with the exception of one efight while we have hit the panic button. They had a lot of blaming refs posts (of course) and wishing some different players would have played, but all of them seem optimistic about their chances to get in the playoffs. Meanwhile you have bama fans everywhere, including myself, who are predicting doom and gloom for this team.

What do you think is the difference?

They don't have a fanbase as entitled and arrogant as ours.

We have a fanbase who is very entitled, that complains that our team is very entitled.

Our expectation every year has always been and always will be championship or bust. It is why Bama has more titles than anyone.

They're used to being losers.

Well, that's certainly one difference.

Seriously, they are probably more upbeat because they think they've played better and feel better about their chances of running the table than we do. They probably think they just played their toughest opponent. I think lots of us have hope that we can also, but probably see 10-2 or 9-3 more realistic.

And not everyone who has that view looks at it as "gloom and doom". Lots of us probably think that it's just an off year, and if 10-2 or 9-3 is as bad as an off year gets around here, we'll take it.

Fact of the matter is we have been spoiled by our own success and I think Terry Saban was on to something when she stated that fans can be unappreciative...

As much as it pains me to say, I'm starting to see why so many posters on this board and across the country make fun of our fanbase.. We're 5-1 and now the sky is falling..

With Auburn's schedule they could lose four more games: vs USCe, @OM @uga, @bama.

I hate giving those fricktards credit, but damn they are resilient compared to us. Could be that they are just one full season separated from a total dumpster fire.

She wasn't on to anything. The University has bent over backwards for Nick and the fans have been extremely appreciative. Just because everyone isn't pumping sunshine doesn't mean fans are spoiled or entitled. I don't know what else the Alabama fanbase could do to show their support towards the program.

You got it. We'll give a coach or player anything and nothing but love, IF they deserve it. Saban deserves it. Saban gets love.

But the expectation, even during the DuBose or Shula days, is title or bust. Unrealistic some years? Maybe, but that is what keeps you hungry. If you accept less than the best, you'll get less than the best.

Our fan base is filled with a spoiled, whiny brats that have insanely short memories.

We obviously also have a significant number of fans that want to see nothing but sunshine pumping, think Saban is incapable of making a mistake, and hate objective discussion about the team.

What you call sunshine pumping, I call just being rational.

There is a difference between this and this whole "the sky is falling" shite I see so often. We've lost 1 fricking game on the road to a top 3 team.

It's like we start a new season and a ton of people seem to go brain dead when it comes to remembering details from past seasons.

eta: OP's example is a perfect one when you compare our 2 seasons.

Both of our losses have come on the road to top 3 teams, unlike Auburn we had a legitimate chance to win it.

We both had comparable wins on the road against Arky & KState. Both teams played extremely sloppy in those games and could have easily walked away with a loss.

The way they are handling a loss compared to how we are handling a win should tell you a lot. Especially given the fact that they actually returned a starting QB who played in national championship game and we have a guy making his first 2 road starts ever.

Keep thinking that. It's one thing to be rational it's another to try to be the thought police and indict groups of people because they don't share your opinion and think we might not have a championship caliber team this year.

Last night, we played horribly. Anyone could see that. It's absolutely rational for someone to watch that game and say "We might lose a few more games if we continue to play like that."

To act like this how most of the comments have been is straight up denial.

Go look at the damn A&M prediction thread.

I have seen it. That's part of my statement that it's very reasonable for someone to watch our team last night and feel that we have a few more losses ahead of is. Again, just because everyone isn't predicting sunshine and roses doesn't mean our fanbase is full of spoiled brats.

Yes we are... As another poster stated we have SHORT memories!! We lost to the current #2 team in the country and we legitimately had a chance to win... This national title or bust attitude that we have adopted is almost laughable... We have won titles 3 of the last 5 years.. THAT IS ALMOST UNHEARD OF NOW OR ANY ERA OF CFB!!!!!!!

Even if we go 9-3 and make it to a bowl like the Captial One bowl, does that mean that we haven't had a good year?? Certainly not but our fanbase acts like it is... This "We are Bama and National Titles are our birthright" attitude wreaks of arrogance and being spoiled...

There is really no reason to try to hash this out. I'll just never grasp the line of thinking people on here seem to have. I'll come join y'alls pity party once we lose to someone like Tennessee or we lose multiple games.

If those really are our "expectations" then the Bear had over 15 bust seasons...

So wait, do y'all seriously think we shouldn't be objective or critical because of our past accomplishments? That's the kind of mentality that led to the DuBose-Shula years.

If we don't win a championship this year, people will be able to live with that. There is literally nobody who wants Saban to be fired...but if we end the year with no real accomplishments and/or another loss to AU, then it will reasonable to be frustrated with the results.

As of this moment, there are Alabama fans who have seen how we have played/coached this year and have every right to be concerned about our chances to go unscathed the rest of the way. What are we supposed to do? Turn a blind eye and say "We'll be fine." "All is well." "Saban's going to mudhole Sumlin."
