Mullen is doing it with less talent and appears to have the better team. Tough call though.

Also, this is Mullen's first year controlling the offense. Which has really worked out well.

Freesus

He's winning with players he hustled to recruit and a solid program on offense and defense. good players but no super stars.

Mullens doing a good job too but is largely dickriding Dak Prescott ala Chizik and Cam. I expect the Grinders to back to their normal selves when Dak is history.

It'll play itself out. But I'll give the nod to Mullen with the two wins over LSU and MSU.

I hate their arse but Butch Jones has completely changed the mentality of the TN team.

Good question.

On the one hand you have Mullen who has spent the previous 5 years building the program from the ground up and developing key guys like McKinney, Prescott and all those lineman.

On the other hand you have Freeze who has only been here for two years and is still in the rebuilding process. He recruits as good as anybody and that shows on the field.

While I think Hugh has the better win on paper against Bama, Mullen has been more dominate in their wins against quality teams.

I would probably lean Mullen this year just because of the job he's done developing these low 2 and 3 star high schoolers into all sec talent. Both are great coaches though.

Eta: Not that Hugh hasn't developed players too (See Cody Prewitt)

Agreed but Butch hasnt won yet. 2015 should see a return of the Vols to relevancy. Will be very surprised if they are not a factor next year especially with a relatively weak SECE

It would have to be a tie between Freeze and Mullen at this point. Stoops isn't too far behind

Fact: Dooley would have UT at more wins right now that Butch.

Fact: Dooley beat Butch.

Butch is a better salesman though.

Gus has entered Saban territory. Undefeated, ranked #2, and nobody talks about him as a coach of the year candidate.
