I've found new respect and love for Southern and Central Arkansas.

So this interactive map from the NY Times that shows Favorite college football team county by county shows Arkansas and Oklahoma to have an even percentage of fans in Washington County of all places.

No other county in the state has this outlier. Most counties outside of the Ozarks have the Hogs at 60-70%+ as the favorite team. I'm genuinely disgusted and ashamed by this statistic. It's embarassing for the home county of the Flagship school to not be overwhelmingly in favor of the school that resides there.

In Payne County, Oklahoma has a 20% lead over Oklahoma St. However, we are not Okie Light historically bad, and there's no other in state competition to take hearts and minds.

Boone County in Missouri is 70% Mizzou
Almost every county in Wisconsin is 80%+ for the Badgers
Knox County in Tennessee is 65% Vols
E/W Baton Rouge Parishes are 74% and 75% LSU
Orleans Parish is 71% LSU
Brazos County in TX is 67% A&M
Oktibbeha County in MS is 49% MSU

Now there is some comical mistakes in their poll and methodology which honestly renders the whole thing worthless.

Tuscaloosa County in Alabama is 22% Arizona, 13% Arizona St., and 11% Bama. I'll attribute that to the Bama t-shirt fans not knowing the difference between Arizona and Alabama abbreviations.

This also shows in Colorado where they've got UCONN as the most favored team across the state.

Those gaffes still don't explain how the Hogs are only 28% favored in Washington County.

Their numbers are fricked up because if you break it down by zip code.. every zip there is more than 70% arkansas :P

That is obviously incorrect.

Do those gaffes explain why Cal is the #2 team for a lot of counties in Arkansas?

And I must say, I'm disappointed in White County. Their #1 team is the Cal Golden Bears, followed by Oregon. Arkansas is #3!

ah ha! I didn't drill down that far.

frick Lake Village and your 40% favor. 70%+ is more like it for Washington County. Surprised it's not 80%+, but I guess all the move in would dilute it down a bit.

This looks like a mid-term assignment for a freshman level stats class.

I think they've had coding issues and are still working through them. Deadspin linked to this last week and I was looking at Arkansas and nearly every county was between 70 and 80 percent for the Hogs. I perused every county and there was nothing about the Cal Bears, and the percentages have gone down for the Hogs since then.

The NYT mentioned that they've been having some coding issues with this because UNC wasn't even showing up in North Carolina (even in Chapel Hill).

My bad. Stupid thread is stupid thread.

Guess I let the errors in the calculations rile me up needlessly.
