If/When Sumlin bolts for the NFL, is Dennis Allen an acceptable replacement?

For the Ags fans on here, would y'all be happy with Dennis Allen as your next coach? Or would you prefer an offensive minded coach?

I'm not convinced that Sumlin is headed to the NFL for some time. He loves to recruit, and he loves the advantage that can be gained by it. Who knows who the big names will be when he leaves?

Sumlin's learned from Saban and Spurrier before him. He's a college coach and excels at the recruiting game, there's no need to give up your strengths to the NFL draft/trade with a general manager sitting in between. I would be surprised to see him bolt for the NFL anytime soon.

He's making more money than 20 NFL head coaches as it is at A&M. Unless he's got something to prove in the NFL, I just don't see it. This is a guy that has been in college ball his entire coaching career.

Maybe so, but what about Jimmy Johnson, Barry Switzer, Pete Carrol, and Jim Harbaugh? It's not impossible to be great at both levels.

Sounds like Sumlin will need to win a national championship or two to be a part of that crowd. Which I could see him wanting to take a shot at the NFL after conquering the college game.

But again, unless he's doing that (winnings NC's) in the next few years.. I don't see Sumlin heading for the NFL anytime soon.

When Sumlin's contract LETS someone have him in 2017 there will be more obvious candidates.

The issue with predicting anything now is the coaching candidates in this cycle suck. I would hate to have to get a new coach this off season. Only leftovers after last year.

Stoops has been going to the NFL the last decade. I'm not saying he won't, I'm just saying it is not inevitable.

Sumlin is a Big 10 guy...I think if Michigan comes calling, he will atleast listen. I doubt he leaves TAMU, but the prospect of resurrecting Michigan, which is historically a more attractive job could be too much to pass up for him.

side note which I didnt know... Sumlin was born in Alabama

Michigan can't afford him, and he has talked about how he never wants a job without a natural recruiting base.

The are paying Hoke 4.1 milly ...Im sure they could afford him. Historically Michigan has never had a natural recruiting base, they recruited Ohio and nationally and they have done fine. Like I said, doubt he leaves, but I think he will listen

Michigan needs to pay 5 million just to get him out of his contract. That is before they have to pay him about 7 million before he starts actually becoming interested

I think I read somewhere that he grew up down the street from former Bama QB Walter Lewis.

Nah.
He's been in the southwest (College Station twice, Norman, OK, and Houston) longer than he was in B1G country.
