Does anyone in the SEC do the key jingling crap?

I realize some might do it in a 4th quarter, game is already decided situation.

But I've seen ECU fans do it in the 2nd quarter, and I just saw several Oklahoma State fans do it before the game even started. I don't get it.

First time I ever saw it was when we played A&M in the 90s.

Asked what it meant and was told "Long drive home for the losers".

Maybe it's a thing in Texas.

Found this on an old thread from 2001:

quote:

Texas - 42
Texas A&M - 6

This game will actually be close for a while. Texas A&M does have a halfway decent defense, but Texas will have a massive edge in time of possession, and the floodgates will come crashing open on a tired Aggie defense and the game will turn into a rout, and the chant of Pooooooooor Agggiiiiiiieeeesss, and the jingling of keys as the "best fans in football" leave early will ring through the through the countryside.

I saw a fellow Bammer doing it for the Florida game. I thought it was horrible and there was no way it could be heard over my yelling.

My memory may be wrong. It might have been Florida that did key jingling when Spurrier was regularly running up the score early and often.

Bitter State fan posted this earlier this year:
quote:

2nd the Gainsville trip being horrible, the Gator fans and their key jingling in the 2nd quarter summed it up for us, we left.

Kansas State did it before the first kickoff. Seemed weird to me

That is the first I've ever heard of A&M jingling keys.

AU did it back in the 80's. If AU had the game in hand, the band would play that "Hey, heyyy baabyyy... I wanna know... If you'll be my girl" at about the 2 minute mark, then the students would do the key jingle when the song ended.

I was in elementary school, but I specifically remember it in the 80's with my parents at games.

I must be thinking of Florida.

I just know it was some school that beat the shite out of us early and often when Curley was coach.

Florida did that to pretty much everybody back then.

I'd always heard that it was supposed to be a noisemaker. I've seen Michigan fans refer to it as something they do on "key plays" which is fricking sad

Never done it any other time and I've only done it in this situation a handful of times.

2012 UGA being the last one I remember

When I first heard of it I was confused like it was something to do against us or Auburn.

Because cats. And keys. I don't know, it's fricking stupid.
