or is it just knowing you oponent. It seems commonplace of late. Is it dirty or is it a teams responsibility to keep it from happening?

If you relay your plays in from big signs in the sideline, don't be mad if someone figures out what they mean.

That's my thoughts.

If auburn does it, it's cheating and grimy. If Alabama does it, it's smart and innovative.

why have signs at all if stealing them is dirty? The entire point of signs is to hide the playcall. You wouldn't even bother with them if you weren't worried the other team would know the play. Thus, how can it be dirty when they uncode them?

If you are illegally spying, then yes.
If you are able to pick up on their signs, no.
This isn't a complicated issue.

If you are letting your signs get stolen you are stupid.

My thoughts as well. If it was really cheating, then they wouldn't go through such great lengths to make their signals into codes

nope. Teams study game films trying to pick up on things to gain an edge...if they did the same with how teams send in signals it would be the same thing.

If a player on the field steals signal it's part of the game. If coaches are spying it's kinda cheating.....

It's not cheating to me, but for some reason it's considered just cheap and underhanded and frowned upon by the old guard of football.
So the smart thing to do is cover your signals better, because the opposing coach might not follow the same ethical code you do.

Simple solution. Don't create shitty signs.

How is it in any remote way cheating? These hurry up teams can't have their cake and eat it too. You wanna send in your signs quick and easy so you can play fast, go for it. It doesn't make it cheating if someone uses their eyes to decipher something you are voluntarily showing them, though.
