Is everyone taking the wrong message from UK/UF?

Obviously, nobody expected UK to push the gators so close. But before the season started, nobody expected the gators to contend for the SEC, either. We all get excited watching our teams feast on early season cupcakes, UF and Bama included.

Florida is just as talented as they were two weeks ago. Driskel is just as hit and miss, but capable of executing that offense. The UF defense is still stout. Pushing into triple overtime against UK makes all of Florida's opponents feel better about their vulnerability, but it should concern us that Florida has now had a gut check moment in a game that was a hair's breadth from going the other way. That matures a team, and Florida has the talent if they can grow up quickly.

I wish we were the ones coming off a tight win. This helps Florida. It may be great for the message boards if you hate UF, but if you have to play them, that UK game was not what you want to see.

Florida went 4-8 last year. I'm not convinced of their talent

It's UK and they haven't won a conference game in 3 years. Yes, UF is fricked and Muschump is a dead man walking. Although I wish he wins 7-8 and keeps his job.

I agree with most of your thoughts. I was just surprised how easy it seemed Kentucky was able to move the ball from what I saw.

This was my attempt to help improve thread quality. And this is the perfect example of how "rant-think" will never allow you to have a decent football discussion.

If you think Florida is not a roster loaded with talent that just needs to be developed, you really know nothing about their football program. And you were oblivious to the injuries they dealt with last year.

Personally, I think the truth is inbetween. I don't know if Florida is good enough to be at the top of the East but I also feel like Kentucky has improved (especially offensively) quite a bit since last season.

Seems like the takeaway for most people is "man UF might still be pretty bad again" when the message I got was "damn UK might be better than everyone thought".

I am new to the board, but there does seem to be a theme around here of who can "one-up" the next poster. It's fun at times, but it is tough to actually have a good discussion.

I want to believe Kentucky is on the upswing and will play tough all year and will become relevant in SEC football

Reading too much into any ONE game is a dangerous proposition. Look how terrible everyone though South Carolina was, and how good everyone thought UGA was, after the 1st weekend. How'd that turn out?

Florida will play much better Saturday against Alabama than they did against Kentucky. It will be a dog fight.

Put me in the "damn UK might be better than we thought" camp.

You can tell when you're watching a shitty team or two shitty teams. That's not what I saw in the UK/UF game.

I didn't see two elite teams, but I saw two good teams. I saw two teams that could play and beat any team on their schedule, IMO.

That doesn't mean they'll contend for the East or go undefeated. It takes special, deep teams to do that. But every team they play should be on notice.

Well, Kentucky was definitely better than last year. No question. Anyone that actually watched them play can attest to that.

That being said, UF made a number of critical mistakes that allowed Kentucky to stay in the game.

Two blown coverages that lead to TDs
4 dropped passes on 3rd down conversions
Two missed FG's that would have iced the game.
They didn't have many missed tackles, except for the first play in overtime that almost cost them the game.

Whether those mistakes are going to be a pattern all season, or whether UF just didn't play it's best game, remains to be seen.

But when it mattered, in the clutch in OT, after the bad first play, the UF defense rose up, and UK went 0-4 passing, with 2 rushing attempts for 2 yards.

I for one think it was an important growing experience for this team, especially after last year. We'll get to see how that translates to better competition in a few days.

I think it will be a better game than most think, although I think Bama pulls it out. Maybe I was looking through my Red and Black colored glasses, but Driskel still looked pretty shaky to me. Hell, one of his biggest completions was thrown right at the numbers of a Kentucky defender.

Also, despite having a not-so-great first half, UF put up 475 yards of offense on UK in regulation and 532 total.

Last year they only put up 402 against a really bad UK team that was #91 in total defense last year and had given up 500 yards to Western Kentucky the week before.

Again, it's just one game, but I think it's fair to say that UF's offense is certainly better than last year, and can score points when it has to.

I'm certain one of those will be over the Volunteers.

Sorry Bro, discussion left this board in November of 2010 as we watched the Plains a flame. Now we just post gifs, make half witted comments, tell the OP how lame they are and Bert is fat.

aaaaaaaand.

It happens on this board, like clockwork.
Any time an underdog plays better than anticipated, it's always about, "Wow, [team favored] must suck/is overrated."
Rarely (ever?) is the underdog praised.
That--to most posters--would be admitting they were wrong.

This is what I took from that game also. Both teams have improved, and it's to early to know how much. Same with everyone, LSU has the second ranked defense in the country. Who cares we played one decent team and they rushed for over 250. I'll temper expectations until after Saturday.
