But they think the ball, as it was being delivered, had no chance of being caught.”
Sources with knowledge of the communications between the parties say that no flag should’ve been thrown on the play, according to Towers.
Richt declined to comment on the other calls.

Just today, it was also confirmed that it was not holding on Gurley's TD run by the SEC officials.
And we already know that the ball was short of the pole on the 1 st down measurement.
It doesn't matter, the Cocks won, but those are game changers.

Yep, if you watch the replay....Hicks was running from one side of the LOS to the other, behind the OL, right when the pass was made. But he never looked at Mason or for the ball - he was just running. And Mason sort of side-armed the pass from his hip, like a person who is trying to skip a stone across water. So the pass was going straight down to the ground.
Even if it hadn't of hit the USC defender's leg, best case scenario it would've hit the back of Hick's leg or foot as he was running past. But from the angle, it most likely wouldn't have even touched Hicks...
Actually, just watched the linked youtube video: Hicks does look back to Mason, but well after the pass was made. It was probably intended to be a pass to Hicks when he got to the edge, but the USC defender was in UGA's backfield so quickly and in Mason's face, that Mason rushed the throw badly, and was just dumping it off into the field to prevent the sack and loss of yards. Hicks was not even looking for the ball because he wasn't supposed to expect the pass at that time.

The tip of the football just has to be at the last link in the chain in order for it to be a 1st down.

The holding call on Gurleys run may have been a tough break, but that was definitely intentional grounding. The tape don't lie.

If you're basing that off what Gary Danielson said during the broadcast, he was wrong. It is to the pole, hence the reason you will see officials pull out a note card on close ones.
Gary D needs to worry more about prepping the names of the players in the game he is calling. Marcus Mitchell, Hunter Mason, Damian Swain, and Wilds on Georgia's kick return team.

Is that true? Because I'm sure USCe fans didn't think so two years ago against Michigan.
