Someone please fill me in on how the hell Ole Miss is ranked this high?

No I'm not knocking your team at all. Think you've got a pretty good one, but what exactly have you done to deserve this ranking?

Are you a Mississippi State fan? If so, I just want you to know that your program isn't half of what Ole Miss's is. And that is saying a lot.

This is actually a good question.

They've beaten their opponenents soundly, the way they should beat them... cough cough. And a solid talent level.

They had a preseason ranking and haven't lost. Teams ranked ahead of them have lost. Boom. #10.

I don't think they are a top ten team, but right now, who deserves to be ranked ahead of them?

Dumbass comment from an Alabama fan. Shocking.

This. It really not rocket science.

But then a State fan wouldn't really know how it feels to be ranked and how the system works.

Mizzou for starters. Beat them head to head last year... made it to the Champ game. 3-0 as well.

I would say Ole Miss has looked better than Missouri.

Who else deserves to be in the top 10? No other conference is holding their own. SEC teams are doing what they are supposed to be doing and that's blowing out lesser teams, Ole Miss included.

Someone's just mad cause their program is irrelevant. That's why State is not ranked. Sucks to suck.

Very few teams deserve much of anything at this point other than Oregon. Everyone else has either played nobodies or has looked less than convincing in their wins.

The Associated Press Top 25 is derived from a poll of sports journalists from throughout the United States. They are asked to rank Division 1 football teams from 1 to 25 based on how good they think those teams are. Teams ranked number 1 are thought of as the "best" team in the country, teams ranked number 2 are thought to be the "second best," and so on.

Once these ballots are cast, the votes are tallied and an aggregate ranking is created. This is the weekly Associated Press Poll, which you are referencing in our original post. Ole Miss, on the aggregate, was voted as the 10th best team in the country. There were plenty of people who voted them higher or lower than 10, but on the aggregate that is where they landed this week.

I hope that explains it! I'm happy to answer any additional questions you may have!

Does anyone remember that year they were like #5 in the country I think a couple of years ago?
