Being a Dawg fan for 60 years...

All of this praise & adulation from the talking heads at ESPN etc. & through out the blogosphere for the Bulldawgs is unnatural, disconcerting and is starting to make me twitch & feel like shite is crawling on me...

I know exactly what you mean. I keep saying "Stop it, yer gonna frickin' jinx us!".
Then again, I'm strangely optimistic about this game/team/season. Dawgs got this!

I know exactly how you feel. It's a strange thing, indeed.
But, if the Dawgs are the team that the talking heads believe they are (which is why they are getting the hype), then they will pull through regardless of said hype.

Check back Saturday about 7 p.m. We should know by then if UGA is for real. I'm not buying what anybody's selling until they prove it on the road against an SEC team playing like their season is on the line...

Older fans like us were raised in the Dooley years. A man who went into every game talking about how good the other team was and how we would have to play our best game to even compete. Even if we were playing a patsy. So we have to re-condition ourselves to allow confidence to be a good trait.
It just doesn't feel right to hear it.

I remember us beating Vandy by 6 TD;s one year and Dooley said the next morning on his TV show that Vandy had the best defense in the conference and maybe the nation....and he wasn't being flippant....he meant it sincerely.
There is cause for us old farts to not like the love and adulation from the press....it is because every time we have experienced it, with the exception of one season, we have seen those talking heads predictions miss the mark by inches and miles.....

I remember as a kid in the 80's......CVD hyping up William and Mary during game week. Now I'm 10 or 11 years old and even then I knew that W&M wasn't worth a damn.
I remember asking my father, "Daddy, why does Coach Dooley say W&M is a great team when we all know we are going to win big?" He said "Son, Coach Dooley is a fine man and if he is ever going to poor mouth a college football team it will be his own, not another."
