It would make me feel better to see Sims passing down field more Saturday than those sideline passes. I think he has it in him to complete some crossing routes etc. Also look to see Howard catch 2 or 3 as well.

Me? I just want to see Kiffin take what any defense gives us and not force something that could come back to haunt us.

I want to see him keep averaging over 500yds of offense and putting points on the board and don't care how he does it.

So what if he completes a few passes downfield against Southern Miss? Will that really make you feel better?

That's great, in theory. But good SEC defenses aren't going to give Amari Cooper an 8 yard cushion even though we quick throw it out to him in the flats 100 times. It'd be nice to see Sims get some work throwing the ball downfield some against the likes of FAU and USM. There's nothing he could "force" in games like that that would come back to cost us.

When that happens, we will throw it down field.

What part of "take what any defense gives us and not force something" do you not get?

If they are playing us man why the hell should we force a screen? We should test them with deeper routes, slants, etc..

It's not "great in theory" it is the only theory an offense should have. Take what they'll give you, if they play off, take the short. If they plan 2, take the middle, if they man and take the middle take the deep outside (fade, comeback, etc).

SMH at some of you. Sims has broken the Rant.

Exactly. Just because they haven't thrown the ball downfield with Sims, that doesn't mean he can't. What makes everyone think the entire playbook has been on display for our opponents?

Don't see it happening...think we'll keep everything close to the vest in this game and not show anything to UF...I'm thinkin' we'll open up the playbook a bit more against the Gators, but I could be wrong...

I don't think we "open it up" anymore than necessary.

I think everyone gets your point. At this point you are overreacting to any discussion involving the QBs and Bama's passing game.

Im sure in practice, Saban and Kirby have the DB's play press coverage to see how Sims / Coker respond to the changes. Remember, they go up against a top defense (on par with Florida and LSU) every day. The coaches know whether either QB can stretch the field or make the correct calls against a good defense.

Maybe that's why the competition is still on-going.......Maybe they see in practice something from each that they like or don't like against a better defense. I trust coach Saban to put the best man for the job out there, and I will support them no matter what.

Yes, because my reaction is a stand alone issue. It definitely isn't a reaction to others actions which are even more of a overreaction and for the wrong reasons.

I don't think anyone thinks the entire playbook has been shown. I think some of us suspect the playcalling is more limited with Sims though. That's based on seeing him for 4 years, and the fact that the minute Coker came into the game, we start throwing down the field. I'm going to assume that FAU knows, of the two QB's, he's the guy with the big arm. Did they suddenly start giving us the long passes when he came in the game? Or, are the coaches not asking Sims to do what he can't do well?

You decided.

No, Coker just forced the ball downfield on most of his long throws.

As long as we get the ball into the hands of our playmakers, the "how" really isn't important.

15-20 yards passes? Probably so. Anything longer than that isn't really all that necessary. It is nice, but unnecessary.

I would too, and he should probably work on getting more open then.
