As always this list chronicles the top SEC running backs by production on the field to date for the current season. Objective statistics are the primary criteria utilized in formulating this list, however, the statistics are set into context based on the quality of opponent upon which the statistics were accumulated. In some instances where the choice is close, a subjective eye test is also taken into account. However, hype, injuries, suspensions, etc. are not. This isn't a list of most talented or a prediction of NFL draft status. It is just an unbiased look at which 5 SEC RB's are getting the job done the best on the field. As such, this list will likely drastically change each week, especially early in the season.

Note: This list only looks at performance at the RB position. Thus, kick and punt return yardage aren't part of the evaluation. However, receiving out of the RB position is accounted for.

1. Todd Gurley - He didn't play last week, but none of his competition played an opponent worthy enough to gain much in the committees eyes, so Gurley remains at the top.

2. Cameron Artis-Payne - Had a great week against an inferior opponent. Waiting to see more next Thursday in a tough road environment.

3. Kenny Hilliard - Stays at number 3 by default.

4. TJ Yeldon - Another back that is left in this spot because the lack of competition played by almost everyone in the SEC.

5. Alex Collins - He sneaks onto the list with Derrick Henry not getting many touches against FAU and not doing much with the ones he got.

Worth a mention:

Josh Robinson - Two great games against weak competition. The committee looks forward to week 5 to finally see him play a quality opponent.

Russell Hansborough - A solid back that seems to never get enough touches are production against quality opponents to break into the top 5.

Corey Grant - He remains one of the most consistently efficient runners in college football.

Jonathan Williams - Doesn't really belong on the list at this point, but 4 rushes for 143 yards (even against Nichols St.) deserves mention I suppose.

11 carries for 80 or so yards against Lamar doesn't do anything for the committee.

So Henry falls out of your top five and don't even make your 4 worth mentioning list.

List is so legit.

I know people think we suck now and all, but come on...

We were probably the only team to play an opponent that would be recognizable.

J-Will on getting that many yards on just 4 carries before?

"Only on an NCAA video game, other than that no."

No Spencer Ware?

K BYYYEEEE!

Jk, looks solid WDE.

I'm ready for the competition to pick up some. Hard to tell what kind of backfield anyone has ATM with what little we have to go by.

It was a solid game against an inferior opponent, but it wasn't enough to make up for the egg laid (injury or not) against A&M. If he gets healthy and runs like last season, he will earn his way back on the list.

He didn't look very good vs Texas A&M and went out early. If he has a good game vs Georgia his stock will probably rise.

I see him getting his yards against UGA, just not the win.

The committee will receive an appropriate tongue lashing for overlooking the early season Heisman favorite.

Thank you for pointing out the omission.

I liked this concept better when Michael Dyer and Isaiah Crowell were gunning for the top spot.

They curiously counted those as receiving yards.

I'm sure as the season continues there will be enough drama to satisfy your inner drama queen.
