You'd think McNeese would be 25 if Nebraska is 24

Rewarding quality wins, it's why Oregon, UGA and Aggy are in the top 5.

Quality being relative to this power ranking, obviously.

ETA: he Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 10,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. Ratings and projections update daily.

I don't understand creating a power poll that is 90% based on what has happened on the field in the first two games...then leaving LSU outside the top ten and putting UCLA ahead of them (not to mention Baylor, Notre Dame, and Ole Miss).

It's like they decided to go strictly on the season to date, and then just brainfarted with a couple teams.

I also don't understand Virginia Tech jumping from unranked to #13 after beating Ohio State with a true freshman QB in his second start.

I don't understand why they don't jive...so apparently ESPN thinks that Bama is a better team than Auburn nationally, but Auburn is better in the SEC.

It's just that they have no clear criteria. Sometimes they're clearly basing decisions on legacy or reputation or expected performance (Alabama being above some teams who have probably looked better), while other times they're making big moves based on one performance (VT).

Should be the latter, and they shouldn't hesitate to make huge changes week to week. That is the point of a power poll as opposed to rankings, IMO.
